It's all about the money!!! As I said many times before, it's the huge increase in spending that has propelled UGA to the elite level. Same can be said for Clemson several years ago. And we all know that Alabama & Ohio State have always been top spenders for many years (Alabama - at least when Saban arrived). Nowadays, you simply cannot win championships without spending huge - which narrows down the field to only about 15-20 (out of 128) FBS schools that can actually compete. Personally, I think it's wrong for the sport, but the NCAA has let it happen and there's no stopping it. And, if this is the way the game is to be played, then kudos to UGA for FINALLY stepping into the ring and doing what it takes.
The SEC facilities arms race will continue. Look at the Youtube video of LSU's new/improved locker rooms. UGA will have to continue to step up it's game to keep up. And soon, tickets to a home game in Athens will be only for the select few who can afford the price of admission.
My understanding, from published reports, is UGA is still behind in facilities, even with the indoor practice field. We will catchup eventually there but could take another 5+ years.
Where exactly are we behind? Wasn’t clear to me.
I don’t believe the published spending on Bama Recruiting includes the invoices from “Saban Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge” to the university of Alabama.
Staying competitive in college football is expensive, making up ground in college football is super expensive. If our past president had the zeal for football that our current president does, we wouldn't have been so far behind, let's put the blame where it should be. He despised Vince and athletics suffered greatly. Don't blame past coaches or athletic directors for our sorry state of affairs when Kirby arrived. This, in no way, means I am not happy that we have Kirby just that the "man at the top" is the villain.
Well, it's better late than never. I keep wondering where this program would be today had they done this 35 years ago. I truly believe uga would have won at least 3 more national championships with the talent that this state produces. It pains me to think about how much talent we have lost from the state over the years. I believe we would have beaten bama in 2017 if we had Derrick Brown in the middle of that defense. The difference one man can make!
Some schools are interested in being the best. UGA is committed to being to being the best! That is the biggest change Kirby brought with him from Alabama and the difference between the Smart and Richt eras.
The days of rival recruiters being able to say 'How important is football to Georgia if they don't have an indoor practice facility.' are long gone.
Glad to see Georgia fully invested in it's football program.
