Did Silas tell you he was leaving? Very impressive that you know that. Do you have a crystal ball? Is it the same one that revealed that "Mediocre Mike" was a walking disaster?
Abson, yeah, I could see him leaving. He played well and didn't get enough playing time. But it's also understandable that Newell, Godfrey, Somto and James were ahead of him in the rotation. If Abson and Newell are the only front line guyd leaving, we'll be in great shape because of the freshmen we have coming in.
As for Silas, I imagine that whatever NIL package the boosters can put together will determine whether he stays or not.
You're "Mediocre Mike" schtick is way past it's due date. He may very well not be the second coming of Bruce Pearl. But his teams have improved every single year, and we just had our most successful season since 2002. But, hey, don't let the actual real world spoil your consistency in being wrong.
@CandlerPark Silas is hitting the portal. Abson isn’t staying bc he never got playing time despite playing well almost every chance he got. You are certainly a very optimistic guy I’ll say that for you.
Other than Asa…everyone else associated with the program should be embarrassed. The moment was too big for Mediocre Mike. But he he’s got 3 timeouts left lol
Well we made it to the Big Dance. We stepped all over our toes and knocked over the punch bowl and farted and fell when we were trying to dance with the only girl that would attempt it with us.
Kudos to Coach White and this Georgia team for a Great Season!
Excellent quotes from both White and Demary.
Gonzaga was a very tough draw for this young team. It showed. But our b-ball culture took advanced this year just by getting to the tournament. This year ended the NCAA drought at a decade, and we solidly belonged there. Despite losing Newell, we can do better next year.
First order of business: Hold onto Silas, Blue, Somto and Godfrey. We'll then be stronger at three starting positions just by virtue of the experience (in contrast to just about every other SEC team).
So long as we hold onto Somto, Godfrey, and either James or Absom, we'll be in good shape up front … especially because we also have the 6-8 No. 11 SF recruit ('Nique's son, no less!), the 6-8 No. 13 PF recruit, and the 7-1 No. 20 C recruit coming in.
Even if our very good starting guards return, we'll need a couple of good transfer Gs to fill in the gap that Lawrence and Leffew leave behind. The good news is that an NCAA team is better to sell to transfers — so we could do even better than Lawrence and Leffew, who were very solid second-team guards.
It looks to me like we're well positioned to keep getting better, but this year was a big step.
This embarrassing loss shows Georgia has thousands of country miles to go to be on this level. Gonzaga has been to more sweet 16s than Georgia has been to the tournament by a long shot. Zero ncaa tourney wins in 23 years even though that one was vacated. Very little administrative support for the Georgia basketball program throughout its entire existence and it shows because Georgia can’t get top quality coaches and very few top notch players. And if they do get good players, most transfer to other rival schools. I’m still not convinced that White is the answer. Yes, steady progress has been made each season, but for that to continue, he’ll have to take Georgia back to the big dance next season and actually win a game or two. That will be a huge task because of the NIL era, transfer portal and the very mediocre history of Georgia basketball. This season ended on a two loss dud. No show in the sec tourney and an embarrassing disappointing loss in the big dance.
Let's See Mike , offensive basketball is still based in fundamentals, ball movement, passing, an screens. GA is terrible at all of those. They had to be last or nearly last in assists this season. To win in the post season a team needs a true point guard. Silas is a great player but he's not a point. The last decent point GA had was JJ. Is there some reason you can't teach these players how to screen. It's no crime to emulate some of the great offensive you play against.
Gonzaga loss shows just how bad our program needs to hire a coach like Mark Few instead of Mediocre coach after mediocre coach…
