"But UGA has not been tested like they will be tested vs OSU. How will a young team respond? How will OSU respond to another smash mouth game?"
I respectfully disagree! UGA has beaten the best that the SEC and PAC12 could throw at them and passed with flying colors. That's a much bigger feat than winning the BIG10...which OSU didn't do, BTW.
The Dawgs started the season out with youth and inexperience at a few positions...however, we are entering Season 2022B (CFP), with 3 weeks of pre-Bowl practice. The boys aren't "Young & Inexperienced" anymore.
The track meet we saw in the 2nd half of the LSU game was invited by Kirby and Muschamp. They pulled back on pressuring Daniels a little bit and went to "man coverage" on the backend.
There was a few mistakes made. But, that's kinda the point. Before Kirby and Muschamp can "fix it"...they have to know what's broke. You need to see what each of your DBs can do, if left on an island with the best receivers in College. Especially, when you are getting ready to face an offense like OSU's You won't see any of that mess in the CFP.
UGA's undefeated regular season, allowed the younguns to mature and gain valuable experience. With Spring Practice, Fall (2-a-days) preseason practice, 13 game and 3 weeks of Bowl practice...I think it's a mistake to underestimate the progress these boys have made over the last year.
"It will be on the coaching staff to feed the right play calls to SBIV and minimize his improvisations."
Why would you want to change the offense's M.O. at this stage of the game. Doesn't make any sense...unless you think it would somehow validate your unwavering (and erroneous) opinion of Bennett and Monkin's offense. Lol.
We get it...you want the Dawgs to air-it-out on every play. It's a formula for big STATs...but, not Wins or Championships. You'll learn. Lol
Bennett's been calling and changing plays at the LOS for 3 years. Granted, moreso now, than ever. But, it's been successful. To top that off...UGA's Coaches and former QBs on ESPN and SECN have been raving about his ability to adlib and move the offense up and down the field.
The so-called Red Zone issues have been self-inflicted through conservative play-calling. I'll give you a prime example:
vs Mizzou...UGA moved the ball inside the 10 yd line, twice, late in the 4th qtr.. They scored twice on 1 yd runs. Monkin only called 2 pass plays on both of those trips. Both to McConkey...and both for 3 yds. Does it seem like they were worried about scoring...or winning, that game? Lol
I don't think OSU has the hosses to go toe-to-toe with UGA for 4 qtrs..
UGA is a "complete team", whereas, OSU has an offense with missing WRs (sound familiar) and not much of a defense.
IMO...Michigan will be a tougher beat than last year...Lol...but, then again, so will UGA. My picks are below. Use them responsibly. Lol
UGA. 52....OSU. 10
MICH. 38...TCU. 9
UGA. 41....MICH. 17. CFPCG
"Can’t enjoy the fellowship of a Winning Season with my fellow Dawgs fans without you coming and taking shots at the Dawgs " . Every Dawg fan has every right to thoroughly enjoy this winning season.
BUT Is it really a season to enjoy IF (I said IF) the season doesn't end with a win? I have no idea what will happen vs OSU. Will it be a typical SEC vs BIG10 beatdown? Will OSU keep the UGA D on their heels and be able to score like LSU did in the 2nd half of the SECCG? It could go either way.
You think CKS will be satisfied to get this far and lose? Will he "enjoy a winning season"? I have enjoyed it so far. I have confidence that CKS and staff will have a good plan to win a tough game. But UGA has not been tested like they will be tested vs OSU. How will a young team respond? How will OSU respond to another smash mouth game?
You don't get this far often. Sometimes it takes 41 years. To get to this point and not win it all would definitely NOT make this season "enjoyable". It would be a HUGE disappointment.
I don't think there is a coach in the country that prepares (from day 1) a team for success like CKS does. That is the good news.
Unlike last season, this run is on the shoulders of SBIV. Last year's D is not gonna be out there. The good news is that he has twice as much starting experience and any QB in the country and is surrounded by talent. Tom Brady or Tony "Oh No!" Romo? It will be on the coaching staff to feed the right play calls to SBIV and minimize his improvisations.
Now for a more important comment than my previous one. I’ll give OSU due respect in that I think they will play very hard and will probably be the toughest game our Dawgs have had. But I Trust Kirby Smart and his coaching staff and I Believe in our Dawgs. They will Find a way to Win. I don’t know how the game will go, I’m not a prophet. But I just Believe in our Dawgs to get the Win. I’m not a statistician, so stats don’t really mean every thing to me. I’ve seen with my own to eyes in spite of my poor vision, a former walk on QB go against the hyped up stats and along with the great support of his teammates and coaches Win 27-3. That is enough to give me Plenty of Faith, keep the stats, I don’t need Em !! Go Dawgs !!!
Oh OK so when Bama has injuries That counts for Them. But when UGA has injuries it doesn’t count ( see your comments on another thread). You must have to buy allot of razor blades because you are so two faced. The Only reason you come here is you get your cookies by spinning up Dawgs fans. Ooops forgot the other you also fancy yourself as being The expert above all other experts of college football. I will give you this much credit you Do get under my skin. Can’t enjoy the fellowship of a Winning Season with my fellow Dawgs fans without you coming and taking shots at the Dawgs and claiming to be merely objective.
Easiest thing to say is this. Not this season. So why bring it up? Already building an excuse for OSU? This is preparing for OSU not Bama. They didn't make the playoff. So it's a moot point.
Only motivation we need, set the Georgia standard. We win this game and the next and UGA will no longer be that team comes up short. Yes, we will have extremely high expectations going forth, but all the "they can't beat such and such" will all but fade away. Win these games for Dooley. Win these games and finally knock Bama off their mountaintop about being the standard in the SEC/rest of the country. We'd do something they've never done.
🤣🤣🤣....Bravo!! Well said.
Honestly, I couldn't read his post. I got through the first two sentences and just started laughing...and, moved on. Lol
There’s always a reason why teams win or lose, there’s nothing new about that. No one (including you) can know what would have happened if Alabama would have had Williams and Metchie for the CFPCG. UGA didn’t have Williams and Metchie either. UGA had Freshmen receivers making touchdowns because they were ready to play when their time came. They were ready for that moment and they believed they could win.
When two teams are very evenly matched and get the opportunity to play twice, there’s a whole lot to talk about for people who enjoy talking college football. What’s not so enjoyable is the condescending way you state your comments, as if Dawg fans are all lining up here on this site to be scorned or chastised. Starting your sentences with “But folks,” and “Look people,” and “guys,” is not only condescending but disrespectful and nauseating. Just say what you have to say and move on.
GO DAWGS!
You don’t know football very well and your logic is impaired. Georgia smoked Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Alabama almost lost a couple of those games and struggled in the others. Alabama had those receivers in those games didn’t they? Why yes, yes they did. Georgia looked like the best team in the nation the entire season. You pick ONE game and then proceed to tell us that that particular game is the one that showed us who both teams were last year. I’m using the entire season to show you who both teams were last year. Every single game played outside of the SEC championship proved Georgia was better than Alabama. The evidence shows that Georgia had an off day.
I'm telling you that we are on opposite sides of the fence going into the playoffs as compared to last season, and that can make a BIG difference. I said this in an earlier post today before this article even hit DawgNation.
Where will the motivation come from and how long will it last? Who's hungrier - The Buckeyes, who were just as humiliated this season against Michigan as we were last season the first meeting against Bama....or the Dawgs?? Where's our fire going to come from and can it last all game?
Buckeyes will come out super aggressive and try to control the pace of the game and the clock. Dawgs have got to exceed their fire with a BIGGER fire.
In the national championship game, our last 3 TDs were scored by 2 freshmen and a redshirt freshman. The 2 TDs to the freshmen was thrown by a former walk on QB. That other team’s and so called fans’ excuses are pathetically old, even when they were cried about after last year’s game. Go post this junk on their site. Good grief. I guess their excuse this year is if they’d had those 2 receivers back they would have made the playoffs and best tenn and Lsu? Please! Get a life! Go Dawgs!!
When you think about a former walk-on beating the Heisman winner, it should eliminate every excuse imaginable. Even the laughable excuse that BAMA "recruited" poorly.
I love the “Metchie/Williams” excuse for Bama fans. I guess most of them didn’t notice we were missing most of our key receivers all season…..and Pickens had just returned to action in the Championship game. One other thing the Bama fans forget is our starting QB (Daniels) missed most of the season and was replaced by a former walk-on who lit them up in the CG. Excuses are for losers and winners never make excuses. Go Dawgs!!!
And BAMA evidently didn't recruit well enough to win their way into a playoff berth this year. Maybe next year they'll recruit better. Or you could coach em up.
I think every coach in College Football in America (with 2 exceptions) wishes they could have BAMA's recruits to work with. No sympathy here.
Maybe Thadec. We’ll never know. Same as the incorrect offsides call a few years ago. It’s easy to say those things after it’s over.
Last year's "motivation" was Metchie and Williams tearing up their knees, people. Yes, it was Alabama's fault for not having recruited more depth at WR and TE, as well as bad recruiting at OL that prevented them from being able to run the ball more effectively in response to those WR injuries. But folks, Alabama won 41-24 because they had 1st round pick talent at QB and 2 WR spots to exploit the UGA secondary, particularly since the QB was mobile enough to roll away from the interior pressure and get rid of the ball to WRs capable of separating from the DBs quickly.
What happened in the title game wasn't the result of extra laps. Instead, the pass rush got to Young because the backup WRs couldn't separate quickly enough like the starting WRs could. Even there, Young was still able to get the ball to the WRs more often than not. The problem was the backup WRs having at least 5 drops including 2 drops in the end zone.
Again don't flame me. UGA won because they had the better team. Building depth is part of building a team, and yes UGA had a bunch of injuries to its WRs and other positions during the season too. And as building depth is the job of coaches, let it be said that Smart, Monken and Lanning out-coached Saban, O'Brien and Golding. But the reality is that with a healthy Metchie and Williams - or even a healthy Metchie OR Williams - all that "motivation" wouldn't have mattered. The national title game score would have been about the same as the SECCG one.
Both of these teams are good, it comes down to which has the will and the desire to overcome the other. We have seen Georgia play with their backs to the wall this year and come out landing haymakers. I expect the same with this game against tOSU. tOSU will get punched in the mouth over and over and their softness will come through. Georgia by at least 14! GO DAWGS!
The truth is this. Kirby will instill the killer instinct and his team will execute.
Motivation is, "let's beat OSU and hopefully get to show Michigan what a Joe Moore Award winner should look like". Let's go do it again. Just like how we embarrassed them and their heisman finalist last year. Worry about OSU 1st and foremost. And then let the offense and defense loose on Michigan.
There's no magic formula, at the end of the day it's just another game where either you exert your will on them or they exert their will on you. As one 1st pick in the NFL draft from UGA once wisely stated. "You've got to strain harder than they strain."
I see, OSU's huge loss to Michigan provides impetus to win, while poor UGA won the SEC plus all seasonal games for the first time and this fete simply gutters the motivation....I see. Yep....UGA is doomed. 13-0 is a real downer. Come on. Motivation is the CFPC...and UGA is plenty motivated to that end...believe me. A perfect record and 2nd championship....nothing better...that is pure motivation. Let's quit with the psychology and jump on OSU! How's that for motivation?
