So, theoretical question. Lets say JT comes in and just lights things on fire and starts looking like a big time player. Does Smart get fired for not allowing him to try and compete against our 2 toughest opponents which could've given us a real chance at the SEC Championship game and beyond??
THANK YOU! It's really really nice to hear some specifics about this. I would love to hear more about Beck, but my guess is just that he has a lot to learn before he's ready.
I did read on another website today that JT's knee repair wasn't a good one. Insinuating that his knee is OK to play(it's healed) but the repair itself wasn't up tp spec. He isn't the same guy he was before with his legs. Another rumor I know but it sort of make sense if he just isn't mobile anymore.
Thank goodness. I, too, believe Kirby is going to make a change. I think he's talking for the kids actually. He already KNOWS Bennett won't be able healthy enough to get quality (and quantity) practice snaps. And he's seen from Mathis that he can't get the job done, so he's really left with no choice but to give Daniels a chance. And who knows, Daniels could be WORSE than either Bennett or Mathis. But Dawg Nation wants to at least see for themselves. And if not him, try Beck. Maybe he falls flat on his face, too, but again, we'll know. And perhaps more importantly, those kids and the rest of the team will know. But let's say Daniels does well, or even just OK. Now you can get him some valuable experience for the rest of this year and that would set up an interesting off-season battle between him, Beck and Vandagriff for the starting job in 2021. I hope he's healthy enough to play and can stay upright. The O-Line has played pretty well. As even Kirby acknowledged, our QB's haven't been getting sacked or even hit. They've just been missing their targets. If the line can keep doing that, then perhaps a more accurate passer will bring about improvement. It would also help if we could get Pickens back and keep the other WR's from getting hurt. Go Dawgs!
The Daniels video highlights confirm he has the arm, but the repaired wheel might be hindering, and we simply don't know yet if he has the necessary processing speed. But can we have a few of those USC receivers, as well??
Cannot in my wildest dreams see a world where JT doesn't show up in practice as well as SB and DW. All you have to do is watch the above highlights and scratch your head.
Yeah, I think that SBIV's injury was perfectly timed for CKS to back off his choice for starter and save some face. If Bennet does wagon wheel his arm in between plays after that hit and never goes back to the locker room, I am not sure that CKS would have made any statements regarding change.
I don't like our options on the potential outcomes.... 1) If Daniels, or Beck by extension, come in and work out better, then CKS is a worse surveyor of talent and/or stubborn beyond repair 2) If they both are just are not that good, which is very likely, then we have a room full of inadequate QBs. So either way is troubling.
The lack of a deep ball threat is allowing other teams to load the box on Georgia, which is impacting the running game as well. There is no other reason I can think of that Zeus only gets 6 carries against the Gators.
Go watch the press conference. Kirby is not going to play a different QB because our current guys are sub-standard, and he would like an up-grade. He is considering a new QB because the current starter is hurt and may not be able to get reps prior to game. SB, according to CKS, was not yanked because of completion percentage, but because of a mild AC strain, which affected his accuracy. It does not matter, that his accuracy on "down-the field" has been bad all year long. Mathis has the wheels to move when needed, but he does not read the defense and pick out open receivers, vs the one's who are not.. He does not communicate plays well, move shifts with the mouth-piece dangling out of the corner of his mouth at the ball snap, and he also misses the long ball to open WR. J.T. Daniels may be a tree, can't move with a bad knee, but he deserves a chance, because the first two failed. Beck may be good in game action, but we don't know. Kirby let J. F. go to become a great player at Ohio State, for Fromm who left early and will never be a starter in the NFL. JF will be a starter in NFL next year. We may have a starter in the NFL who is currently on the bench,, maybe not....It's not SB4, that's for sure. Mathis would need 5 years to develop, and let his brain, and the rest of his body catch up with his 6"6 frame.
Never is anything about Beck. 4-star. Mr. Football and state champ in Florida (place with pretty good players). HS coaches saying he's the best they'd ever seen. Gets to Athens and disappears.
Well alrighty then! CKS is really opening up sounds to me we will get to see some new QB's tossing the rock. Who? I have no idea, he might just run the Wild Dawg all game.
Ok Boys and Girls - Defacto question
Who starts and who sees the field.
Missouri is no push over and a Noon time game is bad Juju for the Dawgs.
Make your choices, put them out there for all to see!
I was corrected last night with my assertion that it was a Red Shirt thing with JT, well 4 games left in the season and he already got a pass last year with the Medical. No reason any of them should not be physically or legally ineligible!!!
But again, maybe Smart isn't being stubborn and all 3 of the others might be pretty bad. We will see, I hope.
Thank you Kirby!
" Georgia has dropped to 13th in the SEC in passing efficiency and 11th in the league in passing offense." Ouch....and Bennett has a 46% completion rate which is the lowest in the SEC. Yes, it IS time to seriously look at other options.
Accuracy, Accuracy, Accuracy....Reads, Reads, Reads....Check downs, Check downs, Check downs...Protect the football, Protect the football, Protect the football....and honestly you'd better learn how to throw a back shoulder pass to move the chains. I haven't seen but maybe one of those passes this season.
Good Move Kirby. You took long enough to make it. Being hardheaded and a bully to your offensive coordinators is not good for your career.
This is a mixed bag for me. There's the obvious upside of giving Daniels - and hopefully Beck, by extension - a more earnest opportunity. But I can't help but be at least somewhat discouraged by the fact that it's being framed as something Smart is being forced into - like moving on from Bennett STILL isn't his first choice, but his hand is being forced by the injury. Here's hoping he actually sees the light and this is just his way of saving face.
My new theme song: "Daniels, an accomplished transfer from USC, will get his best look since the preseason, Smart indicated." Music to these aging ears. Now Beck too will have to be considered. It did not sound like Kirby would start Mathis...but Bennett's out. I just wrote about this on another post. Kirby is being forced to consider a new QB...at least for Mizzou. Try them both Kirby....the season is over for a SEC East win...try something new. You are 12th in the nation now..not going anywhere. Build for 2021.
Did I read that headline correctly? Had to read it twice to make sure. Fair is fair since it was that way with Fields/Fromm never being named the starter as Bennett was. Hopefully 1 QB out of the group shows they're ready to step up and be the leader of the offense.
If Beck and Daniels don't get looks this week IN GAME then Kirby is a clown. In fact, spend the rest of the season giving all three Mathis, Daniels and Beck real game experience until you find a QB that can lead this team.
This is heartening. It sounds like the change will be made and this is as close as CKS would ever get to saying as much.
A big thanks to SBIV. Tons of heart and nothing of which to be ashamed.
