Whatever the reason(s) Newman left ok. He was a 1 year guy. No point in saying what if. Screw that. Play the guy’s that have the heart and guts that grind it out and put the work in. Go Dawgs! GATA!
Let the Qb1, 2, &3 games begin. Hopefully all will stick around and all will get PT this season.
Lane Kiffin said today that two SEC coaches had confided in him that they currently didn’t have enough players with negative tests to field a team. Anyone ripping this kid doesn’t understand that their is a decent likelihood that he’d find himself out there with a 3rd string OL blocking for him while throwing to 4th string receivers at some point. That’s assuming the SEC indeed is able to get a full season in. He’s rated pretty high in the draft right now, and for the reasons above AND that he’ll be playing in a new offense, it shows how smart he is. He did graduate from a **** good school already.
This is literally some of the worst “journalism” I’ve ever read. Did Newman do something to the author personally? We know he always writes as Kirby’s PR man even when not needed (this case), but to personally trash a player while citing no sources (not even anonymous) is pathetic.
Neeman took No. 1 reps all offseason in the team’s limited work, and has since been the clear No. 1 QB since fall camp started, including Saturday’s scrimmage when Newman got the most reps and put up the best #s. So who exactly is he running from, especially since Daniels hasn’t even been cleared yet?
Want more evidence of how lazy this reporter Is? UGA has never traveled with 4 QBs in the Kitby era; so how exactly is Beck now on the travel squad if Daniels is indeed cleared? Daniels, Mathis and Bennett travel, while Beck stays in Athens with most true freshmen. Plus, Bama joined UGA, Clemson, Oklahoma and Ohio State as finishing in the final AP top 7 each of the last 3 years. Did Cox lay off all potential copy editors for this story? Please hire a new beat reporter.
D'Wan and JT will be gittin' it done this season. No other possible way. JT will last this season but I believe that's it. He's gone. Then you have D'Wan now with some reps, Beck, and my pick: Brock Vandagriff..the next UGA Joe Burrow. Hey, don't stone me yet. This kid is dynamite. He will have to study behind D'Wan and/or maybe Beck one year. He is a quick study with the RPO talent and tools to lead UGA down field to victories. IMO.
Class of? Do you not realize Clemson is not in the SEC? The article said the only SEC school that has 3 straight top seven finishes.
Stetson Bennett? I mean he's only one on the roster that has actually played in a game for the Dawgs. I wouldn't just write him off.
Yeah, we'll see plenty of Dwan Mathis against Arkansas. It's called mop-up duty. This is now the JT Daniels show. Hop on and enjoy the ride.
Mike, just a tip - you don't use The in reference to Ohio State without also using University. Think about it.
Great read, Mike. Seems like a simple business decision. There is absolutely no way he could risk not being the starter. Wish him well. He is a college graduate, so it's not like he's a red shirt sophomore. Do you think his agent is paying him like a 3rd round pick? I thought the same about all the high profile opt outs. They become as an independent business and agents become their "investors." Where is that heading lol?
@JimDawg85 I was thinking the same: That we'll see both Daniels and Mathis play, perhaps both against Arkansas. Should be fun. Any football at this point is a cherry on top of life!
Great insight Mike. I agree with your assessment of Newman's business decision. He had to be looking around that QB room and realize that nothing was going to be given to him. Get out before you find out is what we tell a lot of our clients.
He managed to create a tremendous buzz for himself without ever having to throw a pass in public. What will really be interesting to see is if Daniels has a great season for GA and comes out for next years draft as well, who will be the higher rated prospect?
Finally, I bet we see both Daniels and Mathis play this season and I am looking forward to it!
Hey @Petesdawgs the rumors themselves are valid because they're actually being said. But that's all they will turn out to be, according to Seth Emerson at The Altantic. Even if Fields and UGA mutually wanted to reconcile, the NCAA would have to grant him an immediate waiver and very few people see that as even a remote possibility. Just consider all of the short- and long-term ramifications of that across college football. So yes people are speculating about Fields, but nothing will come of it. I think what many UGA fans fail to realize (perhaps blinded by their own dislike of Fields) is that he was well-liked by most of his UGA teammates as well as the coaches and because he's a Georgia kid, he has had relationships with many UGA players back to childhood. So with nothing better to do, I figure he just came to watch a practice involving his friends.
Two of JT Daniels 12 game stats @ USC
15 TD's 11 int's.................. Negative 155 yards rushing
“Georgia is the only program riding a streak of three straight Top 7 finishes”
You may want to double-check Clemson’s recent finishes.
"ATHENS —Jamie Newman is no longer at Georgia because the Bulldogs’ offense was not working out for him well enough to endure the mental hurdles of COVID-19 protocol and the daily grind of competition."
Wow, a bit Sassy today aren't we?
Yes, everything will be fine. I HAVE to believe that the combination of Newman not being named starter (although it seems like Smart never does) + Fields mysteriously showing up (I bet he was invited by Smart who knew) + maybe even as far back as recruiting JT meant that Smart knew that he wouldn't be the starter.
As everyone mentioned, if Newman got benched, any hope of an NFL career would be over so Smart may just have suggested that Newman look like an a-hole and quit and maintain his "could've been Heisman" potential for the NFL scouts.
We've got plenty of talent at QB. Newman was only going to be around for one season so now all the others can step up to the plate. This may be a 2-QB rotating thing for the first few games until a true starter comes forward. I like all of our remaining options, but the one thing we are going to to be lacking is a true dual threat which is what Newman brought to the table. That may end up being our Achilles heel from the QB position - especially with Blaylock out and now teams can concentrate their best coverage on just Pickens.
Let the competition ramp up and assuming the season actually plays out, then we'll find our leader.
