The secondary is not as good as Auburn’s. They would not have held for as long as needed. The lack of a pass rush by the front 4 was the greatest problem. Bama’s o line played their best game of the season.
There is zero chance that Kirby makes a QB change. To do so would be an admission that he was wrong all along. There are only 3 ways you will a QB change. Either Bennett gets injured (and they are clearly running him less in games), or Bennett sees he is hurting the team and asks to come out (unlikely), or Kirby is told to make a change by the AD (also unlikely). We will continue to see SBIV under center until he leaves the University.
Frankly, this was the first real test the Dawgs had. The defense didn’t show up and seemed to have drunk their own kool-aid. It’s one thing to win a mediocre SEC East, another to go toe to toe with Saban. Kirby has yet to demonstrate he can handle QB’s, he recruits all these 5 star QB’s and the walk-on ends up starting??? Bennet was never going to be the answer. Winning the East was a Pyrrhic victory and only fed the delusion.
Tripp, that would be the most hollow natty I could think of, if another team somehow beat Alabama in the semis, and Georgia wins an Alabama-free championship game. I’d rather the CFP show us some mercy and have us #4 with a rematch with Alabama in the semis. I’d rather get the disappointment over with because there was NOTHING from this game that gives me any confidence we’d win a rematch. Well, almost nothing. The intangibles were actually in Alabama’s favor tonight. In a rematch, it might be flipped, but I still wouldn’t have any confidence Georgia would break through and beat them in the CFP. If we played them every year, we probably would’ve beaten them by now. But we let them live rent free in our heads, and until Sagan retires I can’t see Kirby beating Alabama.
You got to double 1 for Bama and make someone else beat you. After tonight you better spy young too with a backer!
Stetson played okay, but okay won’t win national championships.
Got 3 weeks to make changes! Glad Bama beat Auburn. Had they beat the Dawgs with 2 losses, you might have been left out of the playoffs.
It all boils down to we were out coached and out schemed, out played, out hustled, Bama had more desire, their intensity and effort, all leading to us being out scored. Bryce Young won the Heisman tonight at the expense of the Georgia defense. Young played a heck of a game and his O-line played even better, stuffing our defensive front 7. Saban knew Kirby's tendencies and he and Bill O'Brien put together a master offensive plan to shred the Georgia 'D'. I honestly believe that if we do make the playoffs, and have any chance at winning the Natty, somebody else is going to have to knock off Bama!
I'm hoping we just ate to much RAT POISON because it sure didn't look like we were the better team. It's disappointing but it is what it is!
Did Brini play tonight? I'm really shocked that we did not get any pressure with our front 4. The defense played better in the 2nd half and held Bama to 10 pts. The offense stalled too many times... INT in the red zone, turned it over on downs in the red zone and a pick 6. Can not happen!! We will regroup and GATA in the NC!
Hard loss. Let’s see if we can learn from it. CKS IS a great coach, despite some legit frustrations. He could learn when to swap QBs and he appears to have built Bama into something unbeatable in his mind, but we are not too far from where we need to be. Our secondary gave their receivers too much space and our DLine seemed non-existent (did you see Davis on that play?), but we’ve got the best TE in the country and some amazing backs.
We’ll drop to 3rd. Bama to #1 and can get revenge as we pick up the Natty.
Go Dawgs!!
Defense was exposed. But with no pick 6 and 2 failures inside the 20. With a pick and a 4th down failure. Maybe more points scored and definitely gives up 7 less. Both of the 4th down failures are kinda on Bennett. But agree, the defense was completely exposed. To the point of overrated perhaps.
He threw 2 interceptions, one a pick 6 and the other led to a touchdown. Subtract those 14 points and we are still in the game..
This was the last game before the Heisman vote. It's next Saturday I'm pretty sure.
If you want to understand Kirby what nessler said about talking to jt’s parents before the Tennessee game is all you need to know
Nah, we’ll stick with Stet the whole game! Even if we’re up by 20 or down by 20.
Records for passing and receiving in the secc game. Guess auburns front 4 is much better than ours or is it the coaching
Let's call it the Mater Dei statement game. Bryce Young > Heisman?
Top Mater Dei QB of the last 20 years? Standing on the UGA sideline. JT Daniels.
What a story-line. Kirby in love w/his "Rudy" movie fantasy.
SB4 wasn't on the field when Bama scored 41 points. Our supposed 'elite' defense got exposed, especially in all the blown coverages in the secondary. Nothin SB4 (or JTD) could've done would've fixed that.
@kirkhilles....gave us 85 yards in penalties (probably the only reason we scored on one drive was due to penalties) and was without their 2nd best receiver in Metchie for the 2nd half. It didn't matter.
Young will win the Heisman unless he implodes at some point. Our Defense was atrocious. Stetson was average. Both those things together are not going to win you a Championship on any level.
We never really went after the Alabama QB until midway of 3rd quarter. We went man coverage, and rushed 6 players and stopped them several times. Until the pick-6
KS' obsession with SB IV will cost us the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. HE HAS SAID ALL YEAR HE PLAYS THE BEST PLAYERS TO GIVE US THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN. HE HAS NOT PLAYED THE BEST, THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER ON THE TEAM.
Auburn gave us a Blueprint on how to beat Alabama, But Kirby didn't use it. Why? Because he wants to use it when we see them again in the Play-offs?
Auburn played man coverage 90% of the game, and sent EVERYBODY after the QB with no time to throw into the man coverage.. They sacked Young 6-7 times, and he had his lowest production of the year,,, one week after his best career day passing at Arkansas....
Did Kirby sacrifice this game, like he did in the first game against Auburn in 2017, and beat them in the second (more important game)?
Hey, remember when BA AND THE GANG, were team Bennet... what's sad is you didn't even see this coming did you....
NO MATTER HOW GOOD OR GREAT THE DEFENSE IS YOU HAVE TO BE A THREAT TO THROW IT OVER THE TOP!!!
Bennett doesn’t want to get hit? He completed a number excellent passes, keeping his focus down field while knowing he was going to get pounded after releasing the ball. Did we watch the same game? 🤔
Well, here it is again. I wish I could say all of it was a surprise, but it's pretty much as expected:
The good news is that there should be no question that we're top 4. The Oklahoma State loss was a big help there and so the only other 1-loss team we'd be fighting against would be Notre Dame and they are no threat. The other good news is that we have time between now and our next game, so there's time to make changes.
The bad news is that Smart doesn't like to "shake things up" and Bennett will likely be starting even if it's a rematch against Bama.
The really, really BAD news is that this one of those came-down-to-a-single-play type of game. They dominated us. We couldn't throw. We couldn't catch and we couldn't stop Young. Young, someone who only runs as a last resort, had more rushing yards than our leading rusher. Bama out rushed us. They outpassed us. We were freaking 3-12 on 3rd downs (wasn't that one of JT's specialties?). Heck, Bama gave us 85 yards in penalties: almost more than we ran.
I'm not sure that we'll have much of a chance in a rematch.
Our offensive line actually played really well except the last quarter where we basically had to throw every down to try and catchup
Number 1 is right. Blitzed too much and left the slant option over the middle open. Left corners defending for themselves when hot target. Number 2 is wrong. Bennett was afraid of getting hit. He always looks to his left and if it is not their he usually either runs or throw into double coverage because he doesn’t want to get hit.
Saban would have switched QBs as soon as his starter was failinng. He did it withh Hurts and Tua and beat the Dawgs both times. Kirby still has to learn that lesson. Maybe he will make the change and start JT for the playoffs. Let's hope so.
Kirby Smart appears to be an excellent recruiter. He is not a National Championship Coach; he is not even a SEC Championship Coach.
As I see it, we lost this game for three primary reasons:
I don’t think you can fairly put this loss on Bennett’s shoulders, and, sadly, playing JT Daniels would not have changed the outcome.
When the insurance salesman is playing quarterback and the NFL quarterback is healthy and on the sidelines this is what you get.
Please take the score off the main page. I’ve said all year that Bennett couldn’t beat them. I like what he’s done, but let’s face it, the teams we played were all terrible on defense. We don’t deserve the playoffs. We as fans can’t take this continuing heartbreak time after time. What a waste of the season. We’re not elite.
I had said for the last 3 weeks when we played CS and GT. We need to bring JT in and practice throwing for this 1 game, get good reps in. But what does Kirby do, ah, we are up by 14+ in 3rd quarter, let’s just run…NO! You had 1 year against over matched opponents to get the passing game in gear for this shoot out…you failed Kirby and that was not ELITE coaching
Just give the ball to Bowers and let him run over people. I don't know what it's gonna take.
NOT ELITE. How many times do we have to learn this lesson? After 41 years. Honestly, Georgia doesn't belong in the playoff. Losing by 17 to one of the teams should disqualify you. No need to watch this happen again with SBIV next month.
You would think CKS has learned from the losses to ALA. Mix it up and put in a new QB for a spark. Losses have no loyalty!
