This is a big loss to the interior Dline. Bear was a returning player that was going to be a starter this year, imo. I think it's 1 of 2 reasons he did this- 1 Getting more NIL money from another school, or 2 he just cant handle putting in the work that the coaching staff requires of their players. Maybe he thought he was gonna get a pass on all the hard work since he was a 5 star player and he got a rude awakening and just couldn't cut it, so he tucked his tail and ran away.
Not sure what it was but I do know he will be making a colossal mistake leaving UGA since he was primed and ready to play a much bigger role this year for the defense. We do have replacements for him in Hall and Jarrett but they are freshmen and need game experience, I'm pretty sure Bear just cost himself hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe even millions of dollars, with this decision.
I am actually glad he left since he would caused a lot of negative things to happen in that locker room, which championship teams dont need and dont allow a single player to damage their team chemistry. Dude is ultra talented physically but not sure he's got a lot going between his ears and maybe thats why he made a bad decision. lol
GO DAWGS!!!
GO43N23!!!
I get that. I hope Bear goes on to have an incredible career. I wish him all the best. I should've said this earlier.
Bear may be home sick just like Stephenson was who went back to Miami area. Sometimes being away from family and friends is too much. So if he lands at Texas with Sark and gets to see his family, gf, etc. AND gets a million dollars a year why wouldn't he do that?
This may seem tough for people to understand but Stetson made 1 million in NIL last year and Texas may be offering really big money. So, there you go.
The new reality is top 20 college ball is now semi-pro and just like AAA and AA baseball the players want to get paid now.
It would be great if he changed his mind but everyone has to make their own life decisions. Maybe the dynamic with the coach wasn't great or he realizes we have 6 other guys who can do what he does and he isn't all that so take the money somewhere else now while you can get it. Who knows...
NIL is changing the game...both good and bad. But, if Bear is not committed to the G then better know now than in August.
So be it...
He had a bright future ahead of him here at Georgia but obviously, he has other things on his mind. He will do well wherever he goes but I’m willing to bet he won’t do as good come draft time. Kirby is developing multiple first round defensive players every year now. Surely he is intelligent enough to understand the future advantage of sharing playing time would do for him down the road. I think there is more to it than that, and we will probably never know.
Someone got in his ear about "NIL" ($$$). Bear probably had the highest ceiling of all the interior DL. So this is a loss that will set back the D.
First half of the spring game and the D has not been impressive. Granted multiple players missing.
Bear taking the money now and transferring hurts his long term development. Iron sharpens iron. There will be less iron wherever he ends up.
What can you do about ignorance? Last two drafts UGA DL go in 1st round. Go figure.
I want guys who are dedicated to the University of Georgia, and who aren't afraid of the extremely hard work required to play here. I want guys who understand that when a coach chews you out, it's nothing personal- only trying to make you a better player. Some guys get their feelings hurt way too easily, and some simply can't cut it here. I think that's why a lot of these guys leave. They don't want to put in all the hard work. Time wasters, is what they are! Georgia is about winning championships, not babysitting. Be all in, or be gone!
guess he doesn't want to develop to be a first round draft pick. Oh well, his loss.
Kirby is already looking for or already targeted a replacement between now and the end of April
Commit to the G, de-commit from the G, re-commit to the G, transfer from the G.
Sherman only burned Georgia once.
Well, he didn’t even know our school colors when he was being recruited. Prefer he stayed, but if you’re not in 100% it’s best to move on. I only want the guys who are 100% Dawg. Obviously, he’s not even 50% Dawg.
I certainly agree with this who have said this makes zero sense, because, well, it makes zero sense. In fact, it’s downright idiotic imo. But maybe there’s something we don’t know which could make this a sensible move.
Playing time......I call BS on that. More PT means a greater chance of injury which means NO PT. Bear was in a perfect scenario being a TEAM player.....if indeed he is chasing NIL money I have to tell him that the REAL money was sticking with the Dawgs, put in the work and develop and being a first round draft pick......**** is as **** does apparently not COMMITTED TO THE G.
Had a feeling about this guy early on.....voila....off he goes. Very self-centered and not a true Dawg. It might be NIL? He was open to replace Jalen. What more could he want in playing time? Might be $$$. USC looking at him already. Prestigious, high profile school with $$$. Or, maybe Bobo made changes Bear did not like? Rotation. He is making an unwise move IMO. We'll soon see. Does not appear to be a Mims scenario. Kid seems serious. Sometimes we have to mature the hard way. Tough loss for UGA. Very much so....but UGA will survive without him...rely on it.
On the face of it this sounds like bad news for him and our team.
Go, Dawgs, thrive on adversity!
Fellow Dawg fans can try and spin this how you want, but this is terrible news.
It hurts depth on the DL both this year AND next year, it hurts overall experience coming back this season and will hurt even more for next season.
Alexander has played over 150+ snaps against not only top notch SEC competition, but also in 2 playoff games against the top 4 teams in college football.
losing that type of experience is going to hurt in e one way, shape, or form over the next 2 seasons.
Sad news to hear.
I don’t play that “good luck to him wherever he goes” nonsense.
Clearly not a loyal Dawg and a waste of starting time and training and education given to a player that doesn’t appreciate the true meaning of being a Georgia BullDawg and isn’t proud to represent the state of Georgia and the University of Georgia.
Good riddance.
Somebody’s giving him some bad intel. Be careful what you hope/look for…you might not like what you find.
I'll add a second Wow to this. There's got to be more to it than a simple PT issue. Makes absolutely no sense at face value.
WOW. This makes ZERO sense. Most folks assume he'd take Carter's spot at DL. Did the coaches say something to him? I don't see how he'd find a better situation than where he is now. Hopefully, he will end up staying.
Did not see that one coming, makes you wonder if one of those Texas schools have opened up their wallets. Or someone else.
