One other thing that killed the vibe on Saturday was the decision to not let the Redcoats march on the field. Somebody was paranoid about the field conditions because of rain, but it was fine. It really took away from the pageantry of the pregame hype and halftime was a non event.

I mentioned this a few days ago, but you raised the topic on your show again so I thought I'd put it out there again. Doing away with P5-FCS games doesn't have to mean doing away with FCS teams themselves. Most P5 programs are already happy to donate to those schools as it is. Who says that donation must come with a game between the two schools? Why not just start an outright charity fund from the power 5, dedicated to promoting and maintaining program development at the FCS level? They could find out how much money is given annually for these games, spread it out evenly over all P5 schools as an annual donation from each, and let the FCS decide how to divvy it up. Then, simply ban the practice of having FCS teams play power 5 teams. The FCS will get all the funding they would normally get, the P5 still pays the same amount of money they'd be paying anyway, and we can do away with these sham matchups every year. Everybody wins, yeah?
I suspect the program building aspect is just an excuse for P5 programs to pad their schedules/stats with a few sacrificial goats every year. If there were to be some public pressure for them to put their money where their mouth is, so to speak, and they still refuse to evolve beyond this silly practice, it would at least lift the veil, and people could call BS when they know they're hearing it. And who knows where it may go from there. Care to give it a go?
