One would think that teams are ranked throughout the season on how they play. Every team ends the season after playing 12 games, which in my opinion the ranking for the playoffs should be final after the season. Teams playing in their respective conference championship is a bonus for being the best team in the conference. Why would those games count when the final rankings are set for the CFP? The Committee would have the decision to penalize a team for playing an extra game. While the team's outside the top four that sit a five and six reap the benefits of a team losing the Conference Championship game. I can see the team's outside the top four who play in the conference championship game benefit from winning. It would help put them in the playoffs. It seems the teams benefit more by being outside the top four, sitting at five or six not playing in the conference championship. I think all conferences should not play that extra game because it can hurt most teams more than help them. Sitting at number 5 is probably the best position with the way things are decided.
No team that has a week off due to not playing in a conference championship game should enter the playoffs. It's unfair thy get a week off to recuperate and strategize. Missing the SEC Championship was the reason UGA was jumped by LSU in 2007. Nothing has changed as far as logic is concerned.
Just had a conspiracy thought. What if the committee doesn’t want to give UGA “home field advantage”. And intentionally puts them at #2 just to push them out west.
"Beyond the top four, there is intrigue in terms of where Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee rank."
I'm not knocking the point, but there should be no suspense - Ohio St will be No.5. Never mind, the fact that Alabama and likely even Tennessee would beat the Buckeyes.
But that's why it's a great time to be a Georgia Bulldog! We don't have to worry about the politics. The Dawgs are "IN".
Kirby is unconcerned about where Georgia's ranking will be, or who the others will be. I well remember the Michigan, Big 10 swagger, bringing their (undeserved) Joe Moore Award O line to play Georgia. They were completely unable to move the Georgia D line, and got so far behind that Georgia's taillights were looking like single light. We will show them that It Is More Important!
