On Grimes, Chapel Hill is only 3 hours from Va Beach, and offers many of same things academically. Mack Beown is a helluva of a recruiter and had UNC on cusp of regular Top 10 when there before. He’s going to be a problem for awhile in recruiting up here.
Indeed. After recruiting the best talent, you have to beat the best teams, and trounce the others. No more "coin flips" against top teams, or squeakers (if not upsets) against lesser ones.
Good points Aaron. I believe Grimes knows he can start day1 with N.C. Get your 3 years in early and get paid.
Winning is as much about a mindset as much as talent. Twice we had BAMA on the ropes and couldn't finish the drill. Credit to them, they were money when the game was on the line. We weren't. And it didn't come down to just one play. Games are never about one play. It's about a will to win.
Clemson jumped all over LSU in the title game. But nobody on LSU panicked, they knew what they had and they believed in themselves. They came roaring back and by half-time everyone knew who would win , even Clemson.
Gotta wonder if after a couple of years of #1 recruiting classes, if recruits look at UGA, see all that talent and depth, and decide to look elsewhere just because their opportunity to play early is easier.
Us fans just want our team to succeed but these kids want exposure to have a shot to move on to the NFL, they can't get that if they can't get on the field.
It seems like the only downside of being a recruiting powerhouse, is that every few years, the team may be so full of talent, that it cost you new top talent simply because these guys aren't willing to sit on the bench.
Kirby is trying to find that "rare breed" of kids that aren't scared to compete for their spot, and seemingly, that is going to get harder and harder with depth charts that are so deep.
Couldn't have said it better. If georgia can learn how to stop beating itself, we can dominate, lord knows we have the talent. Start beating teams like clemson(2021), bama, and other top 5-10 teams, it'll be a cakewalk to pull recruits then.
No doubt, Athens is a special college town, and Hot Lanta is only an hour away. Tuscaloosa/Birmingham pale by comparison. But until the Dawgs convert their top recruiting classes into perennially dominant teams with an abundance of high draft picks, they won't be the complete package that clearly separates them from other premier programs. Gotta coach these kids up to their full potential, individually and collectively, which should translate to the biggest wins.
