Nothing against the other QB's but Stafford's biggest obstacle to winning the SEC East was Willie Martinez.
Nobody got less for what talent he had than the Youth Pastor did. There was way too much NFL talent at UGA only to have 2 SEC Championships in 15 years. If 10 wins seasons, losing to just about every ranked team, and using the coaching staff as a personal employment agency for family and friends is doing a good job, he certainly did it. Other schools would have fired him after the 2010 season but since he is a nice guy it got him an extra 5 years to run the program into a ditch. The squib kick against Tech in 2014, the Alabama beat down in the rain, starting Faton Bauta against Florida, and nearly losing to Georgia Southern in 2015 were finally enough to get him fired. I'm just glad we have a head coach that understands his primary job is to win football games. Go Dawgs.
5th best UGA this century. I’d take Greene, Fromm, Shockley and Murray, in any order, over Stafford. All the rest of them at least won an SEC East title, And they were simply better college QBs and team leaders. Big arm, nothing else from Stafford.
Still waiting on Stafford to win even just a division title. That trophy from high school probably has a lot of dust on it.
Isn't the talent of the players always the reason any coach lasts? I wonder if the same thing applies to Saban (all those years of #1 classes). Coach Richt did a good job at UGA.
Funny how Stafford's receivers in high school never had a problem catching his passes. Only the Youth Pastor would bench the QB because the WR's can't catch. Only thanks to the talent of the players was he able to last 15 years. at UGA.
As a lifelong Dawg fan, I don't find this story the least bit amusing! And thus began the beginning of the end for CMR. The "10 wins are enough" mentality soon pervaded Butts/Mehre and most of Dawg Nation! Not many coaches ask their team to play softer. That Colorado team was O and 4 when they came to Athens and finished with two wins and we had to score two touchdowns late to win.
I remember that. Stafford had a cannon with no touch. But the question remains: Didn't these guys ever practice?
