Some clear perspective on this board and what can continually make it great
One of my (many) roles at DN is to get to serve as the "bouncer" to get into this club. I see a screen where all potential members apply.
Some folks give it the junior varsity try. I've seen about a dozen spell it "Go Sawgs!" or maybe do not have the foresight to leave out the parts about unmarked bitcoin or their GIF game. The typical applicant brings the "To read and post and stuff" with their application.
I really only try to keep my head on a swivel for weird usernames that foreshadow a widespread SPAM offensive to this place. I do try to let most in. It is not a college essay or anything. I'm not bird-dogging future Hemmingways or anything.
What should this board be? Not the sniping and the personal attack and that mess. We want it to feel like the world's largest tailgate. Kickoff is always an hour (or two or three mo') away. A friend pops in and you chat about the team and the program. When they do, they leave everyone happy they stopped by.
Your day was made by the chance to converse with a like-minded individual who shares the same passion most here do for a football program and all the things that make up being a Bulldog.
But this morning we got an application that puts it all into perspective. For me anyway. She will be a great addition.
Can we try to all just get along a little better? Because this reads like the DN forum just added another 5-star recruit. Straighten those shoulders. Arch that back. Smile and play nice. We can have nice things on the DN message board, right?
Why? Just read it.
