Number 1, I'm proud of our team. The adversity that K.S. spoke of was overwhelming. We had 11 people (starters) that were out for different reason. Florida, anyone remember Fla/Ok game...had 15 starters out. Look at the results of THAT game vs. OUR game. That's all you have to do. Daniels missed some throws, an interception....they don't have the stat for "hurries" in college, they should. Rarely did he get an opportunity to get rid of the ball w/o someone in his face. I, for one am very proud of our team. Auburn fired Malzahn, one of the few coaches that has beaten Nick Saban more than once...AFTER having beaten Ms. St. They fired an outstanding coach in Tommy Tubberville, hence he's the one that jump started Cincy's football program to what it is today. What is it going to take for some of you that are bashing this team. We have a very good team, and if it hadn't been for the depth that K. S. has in this team, we would have been like the Fla/Ok game., GO DAWGS!
Hey fellow Dawgs fans, what will be the Dawgs final ranking when it’s all said and done ?? And a thought here, I believe if the Dawgs can break through and win a Natty soon. It won’t be a one and done but set up a new era for DawgNation. The thing is it’s Got to happen very soon . Hopefully 2021 campaign. I won’t at this time get into all the nuances of why. Win a Ntl. Title in the 2021/2022 campaign and it will be the beginning of a new era for Dawgs football.
My only critiques would be Daniels not getting rid of the ball and taking sacks; Daniels going for the home-run on every play and often under throwing receivers; coaching/clock management....
BTW, was Clay Webb one of the players out due to COVID??? Truss was not ready at O-tackle
GO DAWGS!!!!!
Yes, exactly. Daniels had a very bad day, underthrowing Smith twice and missing a wide open Burton deep. What should have been 21 points ended up being 3. And on top of that there's the bad interception and fumble. The intent here is not to bash or call out Daniels; I do think he's the real deal and will play better than what we saw today given more time to fully heal and develop a rhythm with his O line and receivers. He simply had an off day. The outcry over the coaching is predictable, but the fact is if Daniels had simply played at or near the level we know he's capable of playing - because we've seen it at Georgia - this game wouldn't have been close. In fact, I'd say Smart and his staff deserve credit for not letting this game get away from them and getting their players to gut out the win on a day when the team wasn't playing its best.
It was a win against an extremely motivated top 10 opponent. That's something to celebrate, even if it could have been prettier.
@2statedawg , Thank you for making it plain for all of these fair weather fans. Name me any other school not named Alabama or Clemson that could have won this game against one of the best defenses in the country by missing 2 starters on the o-line and 6 or 7 starters on defense. Yes, I said 6 or7; LeCounte, Rice, Walker, Johnson, Stokes, Webb and sometimes DJ Daniel. I don't anyone overcomes that against a JR and SR roster on the other side of the field.
Good comments you made there. I don’t know the exact spot in the game somewhere around mid 3rd qtr. I think JT had gotten hurt somewhat and it was affecting his play. That’s not an excuse it just seems it took some pep out of his throws. Gotta give the BearCats credit they were highly motivated and they played very hard. Their HC and coaching staff deserve Allot of credit and I mean Allot. They coached these kids Up much higher than their recruit ranking. That’s Good Coaching . But the Dawgs HC and coaching staff obviously coached Up the Defense and it showed in the second half, especially when it counted most. I echo your hopes for a normal spring and season for that matter. I want to see in particular what JT can do having the benefit of All normal spring and summer practices And him being 100% healthy. That is of course if he beats out the other guys to retain the starting job. It’s my humble opinion that we’ve yet to see the best of JT Daniels and I believe he does in fact ave much more to offer he just hasn’t had sufficient time. A salute to the BearCats they have a bright future in front of them. I respect how they came in and played nose to nose with our beloved Dawgs who on paper were supposed to be superior to them. But it does need to be noted we were missing a ton of guys on our D. And two instrumental pieces of our O line. I’m just glad we got the W. Feels allot better than a Loss !!
You guys kill me. We had 2 starters out on the OLine, we were 1 of 11 on third down conversations, we had 6 penalties and 2 turn overs. We had guys out on the defense .They had the ball 3 more minutes than we did. We had 45 yards total rushing. We were without Cook. They were highly motivated and we still came back from 11 down in the fourth quarter to win against a top 10 team. What a testament to our program that we could win considering the way we played.
The game didn't look as good as it was because we shot ourselves in the foot so much-shank punt, fumble while driving, int in endzone, couple ticky tack penalties. We didn't dominate the O line like we should, but missing HIll and Cleveland might have been a factor. Cinn only had two drives and one long run all day. Our D really did dominate.
I have to give the Bearcats and their coaching staff credit. They most definitely were coached up and motivated to play. However, I think this should dispel any thought of them being a playoff contender. Georgia by no means belonged in the final four and Cincinnati was playing a team missing 2 key first team lineman, best cornerback, best safety and starting middle linebacker amongst a few other key players.
Cinci was a formidable opponent for most of what will be the 2021 starters and I fully believe the Bearcats deserved the ranking they came in with.
JT’s arm strength wasn’t really there today and he had a very noticeable limp late in the game. He under threw 5 or 6 balls today. He’ll have to get rid of the deep ball quicker when throwing to A. Smith. That young man can fly. Let’s see who declares, who transfers and then get healthy and start preparing for next year. Man I hope we get a spring.
My mistake, forgot about cincinnati td 1st drive of 2nd half.. So held them to 7 points in the 2nd half.
WWACD???? "What Would Alabama or Clemson Do" against such an opponent? Those who say "a win is a win" is not thinking about winning championships. Podlesny does make that kick and these boards would be lighting UP!!!! This game should not have been close by any stretch.
Well, after the 79 yard td run. But yes, the defense did play better after that.
TREMENDOUS KUDOS TO A REMADE DAWGS DEFENSE AND POLESNY!!
SO HAPPY TO BE a GEORGIA BULLDOG!!!
To their credit, the Defense did step it up in the 2nd half by allowing 0 points. And the offense did just enough to win, nothing spectacular
Glad we won obviously, but one of the least satisfying wins against an inferior opponent that I can remember. Echos of the OT win against Georgia Southern.
I thought it was the right call to punt, the D has been playing better than the O. But, I'm convinced after watching this game, regardless of the outcome, that there are foundational problems that need to be addressed in our program.
I don't know why Kirby didn't go for it on 4th and 3. You don't have that much confidence in your offense to get 3 yards for the first down to move the sticks. Now, you give the ball back to Cincy and they can just run the clock down. Poor coaching.
I hear what you're saying, but I think that also falls under the heading of coaching.
That's true. So, is 17 point (as of now), in the 4th qtr going to win manysec games? Excuse me 16 points.
Absolutely. But Kirby or Monken can’t make JT throw that ball to Jackson earlier and out in front so he doesn’t get blown up
Players Coach Kirby Smart apparently leaving it up to the players to lead and motivate themselves. How's that working out.
There is a time, you BETTER be able to run the ball on 4th and 1 instead of throwing it.
Do you think Camarda will get back to flipping the field again?
Besides that long td run, albeit, a big play. The defense has played better in the 2nd half. But if the offense doesn'tscore soon, it is not going to matter.
When the defense executes, impressive 3 and outs. When the offense executes and plays physical up front, we can score quickly or methodically. I think all of us are frustrated to see years of awesome recruiting but spotty execution on the field...
Vetdawg- agreed. At least Florida can say they lost to a very talented blueblood like OU. What's our excuse?
Dropped balls= lack of focus
Penalties= lack of focus
losing to flipping AAC team= lack of focus
this loss will hurt worse than the Florida game.
they are getting beat on the o-line. Don’t know why they don’t want it more.
Kirby seems to have brought the recruiting skills he learned at Alabama with him to Georgia. Problem is he didn't also bring the coaching, the discipline, the player development, the loyalty, the accountability, the motivation, the pride, the drive for championships, the play calling... have I missed anything?
This is the next o-line? Gave up 3 sacks on that drive, last one being a fumble. Hey kirby , that is how you put pressure on a qb.
Hey defense, that is how you tighten up on a team when they hit the red zone. Not just give up points on 100% of drives that reach it.
I wonder if the cincy fans that are there are going to start chanting "overrated, overrated".
This will be the same this year as this past year. 4th best team in the SEC. Here we come again.
I think what we are witnessing here is a Cincinnati team that is far better coached than Georgia. With all the 4 and 5 star recruits versus what Cinci has is a direct reflection of how one coaching staff develops less rated talent and the other staff, not so much.
Losing the motivation battle AND the turnover battle. Not a good combo.
If this is a preview of this season's team, 2021 will be a long season.. Definitely not an elite defense, average at best, offense sputtering like a car running on fumes
Dear Dawgs,
get your c r a p together or quit. This game is an embarrassment! We are better than this and we need to start plying like it!
Well I have to Eat everything I said pre-game. Looks like our COACHES especially the Head Coach didn’t show up
UGA rarely looks ready to play anymore. Emotionally flat, sloppy, penalty prone.
Earlier this year the offense seemed the limiting factor, and as the season has progressed, the defense has largely reversed itself. Running game struggling for the most part late season. Note the latter 2 are the traditional (over) emphasis of Kirby and now they also have become inconsistent at best.
With these issues unresolved and big losses from the defense this year, we seem (again) in total overhaul mode in the offseason. And a great QB is far from the only required solution.
Top recruiting classes and this result? Must be coaching, and predict Smart may have as few as 2 more years to get the overall thing figured out or he may be packing up. We are now well behind the top 4 teams and looks like Texas A&M and now even OK have blown past us as well. This will be UPHILL I’m afraid.
So 10 points in the 1st half, with this new look offense that is going to resemble Alabama's offense? Not so sure if that is a possibility. Is UC better on defense than UGA.? Sure seems like it.
If UGA doesnt get a stop on the opening drive by Cincy in the 3rd qtr, this game will be over. The players will have quit, especially on defense .
Oops, just got the update. On a 79 yard run. Sad. Another sad showing by the bulldogs. Another 40 years, hear we come.
First half observations...
I said all week the keys to success would be A) Who owns the line of Scrimmage B) Containing Ridder and C) Turnovers
On offense, neither team is running the ball effectively therefore both defense lines are doing their job. Dawgs doing a good job of at least containing Ridder, but he is elusive and only been sacked once. JT threw an interception in the end zone that didn't cost us any points, because we stopped the Bearcats and came back and scored quickly.
**** unnecessary penalties on both teams.
Ridder is winning the QB battle. Again, I'm still not sold 100% of Daniels as our savior and today is proving why. He stares down his receivers too often, and other than a couple of Hail Mary vertical passes, he hasn't impressed me all that much. I cringe when he throws the ball into tight coverage, because I know there's a 50-50 chance of an interception. And unfortunately, he is not any kind of run threat for the Bearcats to have to deal with. Daniels has made a couple of mental errors for sure. I think we're going to have to find a way to get our running game moving to have a good chance of winning this game. Our secondary is showing some gaps and Ridder is exposing them.
For the life of me I can't figure out how we have an ex-DB as a coach, who recruits 4 and 5 star DB's that consistently are out of position and get beat for balls.
