The bullet we dodged is bigger than first thought. Now the young man is saying it wasn’t really the money. Oooookaaaayyy… let’s think about that claim:

1. Best conference - we can argue about whether it’s the Big 10 or the SEC, but it ain’t the ACC;
2. Best college town - Coral Gables not on that list. Athens is;
3. Best campus environment - UGA higher on that list;
4. Game day environment - OSU, Oregon and UGA all fantastic, with Miami having dismal game day environment with a stadium less than half full;
5. Best opportunity for player development in practice and against superior game-day competition - OSU, Oregon, and UGA clearly ahead of The U.
6. Academics - While I don’t know about Oregon, both OSU and UGA rated very high.
7. Opportunity to compete for national championships - how obvious is this?

One could go on and on, but Miami wins one, and only one, category - MONEY.

SO…to hear a denial of the decision, negotiated by a big time agent, isn’t about the MONEY, rings hollow.

Its a 16 year old kid. No reason for us Dawgs to get so worked up about it.

When we watch and listen to someone like Cantwell, it’s not hard to determine a baseline when it comes to how he responds to certain questions/situations. From what I’ve seen and heard he has typically given somewhat measured responses that have a certain tempo, thoughtfulness and depth to them. However, the most recent interviews, coupled with the announcement of his school choice, have seemed way off. I believe he wanted to go to UGA, but his parents are in control a lot more than we can imagine. I also want to touch on this: I would have been just as disgusted had UGA ponied up such a grotesque amount of money.
