Way Too Early Early Entries in 2020 Draft

It's very possible we lose our QB, RB, BOTH Tackles and BOTH WRs (I'm assuming Robertson starts and blows up this season). I think 4 of those guys (Fromm, Swift, Thomas and Wilson) could be first round picks should they continue to progress.

Glass half full folks will say it's also possible that all of them come back in 2020 when all of our young studs on defense are fully acclimated to big time Football and we field one of the most talented teams the sport has ever seen.

Just trying to be pragmatic here. Either way, this season is title or bust.

I'll be shocked if Swift doesn't go outside of injury or major underperformance and there are already reports that Thomas could go as high as #1. If I had to make an early guess, I feel like I can confidently say that four on offense will go for sure. Thomas, Swift, Holloman, and Robertson (assuming he has a great year with major PT, then leaves).

I feel like Swift and Thomas are locks to leave, barring injury. Wilson and Fromm could as well, and several others. A lot of these pieces might be dictated on how the new OC does.

Cleveland, Kindley could also be possibilities, but I would agree the only two locks are Swift and Thomas.

I think a ton depends on final results for the team for some players.

Some will leave no matter what. If we win it all, I see more guys testing the waters. We don’t, more guys stick around

Holloman was the 6th. I think he has a higher ceiling than even Ridley. I've never seen a better blocking WR in college. I'd take him on my team any day.

I think Thomas and Swift would be tier one guys. Then maybe Holloman and Fromm (especially if we win big). If Cleveland can stay healthy for the whole year he could be a borderline guy. I think Wilson will be the type to gain a lot by coming back for one more year. My dark horse guys would be Herring and Robertson.

I think Cleveland comes back and replaces either Tackle we lose

I think we're we're underrating Fromm's draft prospects. If Fromm leaves next year he's a sure fire top 5 pick.

QBs especially don't really get dissected until they declare. His measurements will only be average, his intangibles are off the charts though. He won't be a qb everybody salivates after. I could see anywhere from a top 5 to a mid round selection for him.

I'd go along with mid first round to late first round. I hope it is mid first round for him and he doesn't have to go to some crummy team and have a horrible first couple of years. He can sit and learn at the feet of a solid QB and not enter the portal.

Either way, like OP said, 2019 is probably Georgia's best chance to win the natty. If they don't win it this year, I'm thinking all the juniors that are eligible will not stay for their senior year and Georgia will have to reload again with experience at almost every major position.

I really think that we are overrating Fromm coming out as a junior. I love the guy to death and I think he is the best QB we've had here in awhile, but he is not a sure thing at the next level. I think the closest comp would be Andy Dalton, but with better intangibles. He isn't going to light it up at a combine.

This might just some wishful thinking hoping that he comes back for 2020 though.

I did laugh at #22 on that Walter football mock. I honestly hope it ends up correct.

I agree, I think a lot can change next season though. Most QB prospects come in with gunslinger ability and stay to develop and show they have the intangibles, seems like he has shown the intangibles and might want to show he can throw with anybody.

Oh he can throw with ANYBODY of that I have no doubt, but can he improvise when things go sideways and its up to the QB to make something happen off script to keep drives alive? I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that he can but truthfully neither could Brady so there's that.

@DGDinNYC So it’s now 2019, and it’s been a long, long, long time for Georgia since 1980. Longer than some DAWGFANS have even been alive. If the DAWGS DO win it all in 2019?? Then there will be quite a few more Juniors that will leave to enter the 2020 NFL Draft & end their respective Georgia careers on a very high note. However, if they once again fall short? More of them will stay put in Athens chasing after that elusive “Natty”. PS - I believe that QB Jake Fromm WANTS IT more than anyone else!!!

  • MeR3htidMeR3htid Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭✭ Senior

Yeah, I remember thinking David Greene, D.J. Shockley, and Aaron Murray were future NFL Starters as well, and not only did none of them start, but couldn't even cut it in the league as backups, still lov em all the same though DGDs that they r. I hope its different for Fromm but we'll c. Either way he'll leave Athens as a Georgia legend if our coaching staff proves as competent at doing their job as Fromm is at doing his. GO DAWGS!!!
