I don't have the palate, the pedigree or the pecunia to put toward the bottles a lot of y'all highlight here. But I just picked this up at Costco and over a couple cubes, I enjoyed it.
Any others more educated and discerning collectors had this? Thumbs up? Down? Meh?
The Maker’s rep was in the store dipping them at the owner’s tasting event for the barrel release. I got a rocks glass done, too. Nice little trinkets, no purchase required, but I liked his barrel last year so I was going to buy one anyway.
I have a bottle and like it. Under 20 for a liter, it’s a good daily drinker in my humble opinion
Try the Benchmark bottled in bond. Under $20, distilled by Buffalo Trace, 4 year# old and 100 proof, so it also mixes well. The bottles do seem to “leak” a bit, though, as you can see.😊
I recently discovered a new (for me) Elijah Craig offering: Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel. I've also come to like Elijah Craig Straight Rye for a daily drinker.
Hey GradyDawg, what Costco did you find that at? I'll be in Tallahassee tomorrow and will hit the store there to check stock.
@DawgBones - we stopped in the Mobile location after touring the USS Alabama. Was told they get it 2X per year, so grabbed it. Hope they’ll have in T-hassee for you. Used it to make a Kentucky Mule last night and it wuz goooood.
What was the verdict on that Makers Mark? Is it worthy?
I really enjoyed it. I am not typically a high-proof seeker and I usually drink anything above 100 on ice, so this started a little hot for me, but it mellowed out as it breathed and was a little sweeter than last year's barrel based on the different selection of staves used to finish it. I haven't tried it on ice or with water yet.
Do you know where that shop is?
No, I don't know where that shop is.
Okay. It was a store barrel pick so I thought you were interested in whether or not to go get a bottle. Many stores I go into now have a store barrel pick of Maker's, so you can probably find one near you, just with a different combination of finishing staves.
Gotcha. Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye out for it. I trust your bourbon advice.
I'm no expert by any stretch, just an enthusiast. I suggest asking if the shop has a tasting bottle of their store picks open first. I also try things out in restaurants before I buy bottles, when possible. I don't like having a bottle of something I don't like in the cabinet without the guts to toss it 🤣
I see the title of this thread sometimes and think....
Does anybody here like bourbon? These are rabid Georgia fans heck yeah they like bourbon. How do you think we got thru the Ray Goff years?
Good thread though. Nothing better than that first sip of an adult beverage on a Saturday afternoon just before kickoff. Weather has cooled off. And we are back to back champs.
Man I can't wait. Gonna be sweet.
Kicking off Independence Day weekend with a Kentucky wheated bourbon, bottled per the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. Sweet and smooth, without a big alcohol nose or burn. Hints of cherry on the finish.
Go Dawgs, and praise God for his Providence of our freedom.
If you like a little spice in your whiskey, I highly recommend this rye from Sazerac. Distilled, aged and bottled in KY by Buffalo Trace for Sazerac, which owns BT, it has little or no alcohol heat and a peppery note on the front end with a light finish. I like to make Manhattans with this and Rittenhouse Rye as well.
Cheers to the beginning of a great week for you all! Go Dawgs!
