Warren or Ansley?
What do you make of TN and Ansley? Clearly available, but never mentioned as UGA candidate except for speculation. Tremendous recruiter, so why not a fit in Athens? I see this as a boon to TN once made official.

Good hire for UTk. Just not certain how long he’ll be there. I’m sure he’s looking to move up in the coaching world. Might be part of Kirby’s thinking. Also, they have more money to spend on assistants since Pruitt isn’t making Kirby money.
Ansley is certainly a good hire.
But Teddy pointing out they’re spending their money on assistants rather than Pruitt makes me wonder if Pruitt is looking at this like a stepping stone. E.g., okay with spending all the money on assistants to make **** sure he gets some kind of results. So his resume looks decent for the next gig.
Just a conspiracy theory. No real evidence to show that’s the case.
Warren
I am taking Warren all day every day. Ansley is a good enough coach but I think UT will be lucky to have him longer than 2 years. Ansley has some traits that make him a splashy hire but also fill the room with a little dissension. No way I am rocking the boat with Schu or Lanning.
As for their actual value in recruiting or coaching, it is splitting hairs. Warren has a proven track record of taking less talented secondaries to higher levels. I only imagine what he can do with the talent he has at UGA. Throw in his proximity to home and his salary...I think we have him for 5 or 6 seasons in some sort of capacity. And I absolutely love his personality and the path he has walked. His ceiling is higher imo.
@TMazz2009 Nailed it
Warren. Hometown GA boy and I like his background. He's also had stints at Tenn and Fla before, so he might be able to give us some insight into how those programs are ran/coached too.
Believe this: Warren is better because he's a Dawg. Ansley is worse because he is not.
Others could explain it better but some of his moves were bigger events than he had control. Like the head coach getting fired and they cleaned house? Just working from imperfect memory.
Tough question to answer as it is being asked. Ansley wasnt coming without a DC title and Kirby probably wasnt offering after the Bobo/CSU affair.
If he wasnt good enough for Kirby to offer him the title of DC then the comparison is not really valid.
Ansley as DC/DB coach or Warren as DB with Lanning as DC? That’s the question. I’ll take the setup we have now.
Preach it @JoelSidneyKelly lol. I think Warren is the better recruiter. And he WANTS to be a DAWG
@DuckDawg25 @DogsNotDawgs @bmauldin
I think this must have been covered elsewhere, but Warren is an accomplished coach and he's not really a guy who "jumps" from program to program. Most of his moves came as a result of coaching changes. He's also from Atlanta, so I imagine he's in Athens to stay.
2005-2013 started out as secondary coach at Air Force and improved their pass defense from 116th to 19th nationally during his tenure. Worked his way up to recruiting coordinator, defensive coordinator, and assistant head coach.
2014 hired as secondary coach at Nebraska, but Bo Pelini was fired after the season.
2015-16 hired as secondary coach at UNC, and the Tarheels finished 10th nationally in pass defense under his direction, but Gene Chizik resigned as DC and Larry Fedora shook up the defensive staff.
2017 hired as secondary coach at Tennessee, which finished 2nd in the SEC in pass defense, but Butch Jones was fired after the season.
2018 hired as secondary coach at Florida, which finished 3rd in the SEC in pass defense.
2019 joined UGA as secondary coach under CKS.
Was Kirby willing to let Ansley call plays? I think this more about Kirby keeping his young coaches happy. Also Ansley will get more credit for the Tennessee defense than he would playing under Kirby I bet.
Has it been confirmed that Lanning will call plays? Or is he simply the DC by title
If you got raises and promoted would you stay where you were unless it was an alma mater???????? And even then it happens ALL THE TIME. Your indicating that he shouldn't try to have a successful career and move up the ranks. Would you do that in your occupation? Just curious. It's something for you to "condemn" the guy for as if he has no loyalty to a program. To this man performing the job you have a track record issue while he has a family to support, and I'm quite sure HC aspirations one day. Would you make the same moves he made if you were him? JUST CURIOUS.
