10 takeways from the Corky Kell 7-on-7 Classic today
Tucker WR Josh Vann clearly likes UGA now. It sounds like the Bulldogs are in the top spot. He also likes South Carolina but it appears there is a clear gap now between the teams.
Look for Vann to commit sometime in the next 2 months. That now seems pretty clear to me.
Wrote about Aaron McLaughlin earlier this week. That was a preview. McLaughlin looked very good today. He's taking a big step forward with his game this summer.
Central Gwinnett, led by Kentucky commit Jarren Williams, won the CK7v7 today by Archer by a 32-14 margin in the championship game. Williams looked very very sharp.
Cartersville and 5-star QB Trevor Lawrence took the top speed coming out of pool play. But they sat awhile and waited. Archer bumped them off in the single-elimination tournament. Lawrence is still Lawrence. Still a can't miss prospect in every sense of that overused term.
Carrollton's DE/OLB Kevin Swint is well-known prospect already. The elite 2020 defender just picked up a recent Ohio State offer. But a new name to know would be 2021 OLB Chaz Chambliss. Chambliss is 6-foot-3 and about 215 and just a freshman. He's an offered man walking. He just doesn't know it yet. Swint and Chambliss will be a heavy-hitting and big and fast and athletic and long OLB duo for the Trojans this fall. The coaching staff feels that Chambliss will eventually be just as big a prospect as Swint is right now.
Looking for a nugget on Swint? He's going to take awhile. He told me that he currently does not plan to commit to any school. He will make his decision plan (right now) on National Signing Day in 2021.
Carrollton just picked up a big 6-foot-1, 200-pound CB by the name of Isaiah Todd. He did an apt job today locking down DBs. He is a Class of 2018 who just transferred from Alexander. Look for him to pick up several nice offers once his senior film gets out.
Tucker 2019 DE/OLB Derek McLendon sounds like he feels there are a couple of schools ahead of UGA right now. He plans to set his Top 5 soon and he acknowledged that the Bulldogs have some catching up to do with a few other schools. LSU is also in there with him. Look for him to make his decision by maybe late September at the earliest (his birthday) or after his junior season. Alabama sounds like a major player for him. He's been told by that staff that he is the No. 1 defensive target on the board for Alabama from the state of Georgia in the Class of 2019.
*Colquitt County QB Steven Krajewski had another decent showing, but it wasn't as good as he fared at UGA on Thursday at the Kirby Smart 7v7 camp. I was told he completed close to 90 percent of his passes there. Propst told me that impressed Georgia offensive coordinator Jim Chaney. Propst felt that Chaney now feels Krajewski is one of the Top 5 QBs in the state this year. Krajewski is a big kid at about 6-foot-4 and he's rated as a 3-star prospect for 2018. Syracuse has offered.
