Rivers generally flow north to south (and west to east). Georgia “sucks” in the joke because the St. John’s river flows north towards Georgia, but ultimately fails as Spurrier epically did against Georgia in his 1966 Heisman campaign because the St. Johns flows into the Atlantic in Florida. It flows north to JACKSONVILLE because giving the University of Floriduh what basically amounts to an extra home game is what really sucks!
