Roquan Smith provides update on his status for the Chicago Bears

The former Georgia standout did not play in Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings. When Chicago coach Matt Nagy spoke with reporters about Smith's status he gave a cryptic

His 2017 season for UGA was legendary. An absolute pleasure to have witnessed it. All the best Roquan.
I like the way RS and his coach have handled it. Many things need to be handled privately.
I never understand why people think the media has no right to ask people questions, even when they say, "it's a personal issue." That may be the case, but the media has the right, the responsibility, to ask the question. The fans of the Chicago Bears (the season ticket holders and other supporters) certainly would like an answer. He is not necessarily obligated to tell anyone but the team what's going on with him, but NFL players are not like "any other person." They work in front of tens of thousands of people (millions more on TV) and their well-being is of supreme interest to folks. Easy to sit here and say it's OK for Roquan to keep quiet, but I guarantee you many Dawg fans would not so easily accept it if, say Jake Fromm was a last-minute scratch against Notre Dame because of an undisclosed "personal issue." People would want answers and they would expect the reporters covering the team to get those answers, or AT LEAST ask the question. That's what's happening in this case.
