This is the area of the team I was most concerned about before the season. Wow, has that been just the opposite. The area where we seemed strong, defensive backfield, seems to be the biggest area of concern based on the first quarter last week and the second game of the season. Based on what I have seen this year, we are much better than 2017 and more focused than last year. Year of the DAWGS!
Our Run D is awesome and generally it always seems to be pretty good. That's not the issue though. It's the Pass D. That is where you get into trouble because the Top teams can and will throw on you and score some quick TDs. It would always frustrate me when we'd pound a running TD over 20 plays or whatever and then the opposing team would get 60 yard passes and score in under a minute. We gotta get that under control.
UGA getting "20 play" TDs and when or if the opponents score quickly is the reason we own the second half and especially the fourth quarter. Absolutely nothing is more demoralizing to a defense than to get pounded play after play and not be able to get off the field! Eventually, all the opposing D wants to do is find a soft place to land. That's what Kirby calls breaking the opponents will. I don't find that frustrating. I find that entertaining, but that's just me!
