WATCH: Closer look at pending College Football Playoff rankings, Georgia football mojo
ATHENS — Georgia football politics are back in session, with the College Football Playoff Committee releasing their first rankings of the season. The Bulldogs have a case to be as high as No. 6, but the CFP Committee uses several different metrics in its evaluations, and as Kirby Smart said last year it will change

I'm firmly convinced the Dawgs have to win out in order to make the CFP. If bama misses the SECCG by losing to lsu and then a 2 loss UGA team beat LSU there is absolutely no doubt the selection committee would leave UGA out and include bama. Fair or not that is exactly what would happen.
The CFP Committee believes it was generous to UGA early on when they seemed to have a lock on 3rd place....then the big let down with SC and things went south fast. Even KY win was sloppy. Climbing back to the inner circle of 5 looks pretty slim unless LSU or Alabama lose face with a lopsided loss AND UGA wins out. Also Penn State must beat Ohio State to remain in the favored circle... a loss by either one could alter the playoff scenario. GA has a chance....I agree...to reach the big game...a chance. They must win out convincingly including the SEC. Some pundits still feel a 1-loss PA State or Ohio State is better than a 1-loss UGA. Maybe Ala. loses by two or more scores to LSU or inversely....then what? Especially if UGA then beats the SEC West champ. They should be IN! Lots of " what ifs." Lots of speculation. Time will let us all know.
Dawgs considered pond people, not pool people. Only way in for us is win and force it.
If Dawgs finish 12-1 which would include a win in SECCG, I see no way possible we could be shut out of playoffs. One more loss in any games we play will definitely shut us out. Auburn used to worry me, and they are a legitimate threat, but I believe our defense will keep Auburn in check and we win a close one totaling 40-45 points. Missouri and A&M at home so advantage UGA ( I know, I know). Ga. Tech...ROFL! Alabama-LSU have their playoff game this coming weekend. Go Dawgs!
There is little chance a 2 loss Georgia team that beats LSU/Alabama in the Championship game will be left out. The optics would be terrible and the push to expand to 8 teams would become deafening. I would add a caveat that the other loss is to Auburn on the road by less than 3 points. I don't see us losing another game until the SEC Championship game and then it depends on which offensive game plan is installed. I do say that we had better not be ranked 7th behind Oregon as I would state that if we played Oregon we win by at least 10-14 points.
We took care of a highly hyped smoke-and-mirrors team this past weekend and will do it again at Auburn. Regardless of where we are ranked tonight, the committee will make sure we are positioned to where we can be in the final four by the time the last rankings are determined if we should be a one loss conference champion.
All this IF crap is just that. Quit writing about it and report on the team. Win ur in, lose and that's the way it goes. Pretty simple.
