Report: Former SEC head coach expected to be new UGA OL coach
It looks like the rumors about UGA’s new offensive line coach will likely turn out to be true. Former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke is expected to fill the UGA vacancy, according to Yahoo Sport’s Pete Thamel. For UGA, losing Sam Pittman as the team’s offensive line coach was a big blow. The new Arkansas coach was an

Maybe he can teach the O-line how to run-block as Ole Miss led the SEC in rushing (of course a lot of that was probably QB runs).
Sorry looks like Ole Miss was 2nd in SEC in rushing, UGA was fourth.
Hold on there guys....Luke is being brought in to counterpoint Pit-man leaving. (If true) Luke is well liked and a good recruiter....Pit-Man strengths. I am sure Luke will bolt as soon as another head coaching job opens. But for now...alea iacta est. GO DAWGS!!!
The drop-off likely had a lot less to do with coaching than consistently going up against 8+ in the box. There's also the consistent shuffling due to injuries to consider; sure, there were talented backups, but continuity is big. The offense has had its issues for sure, but I don't think OL coaching was one of them.
Coach Luke is well liked. Highly thought of and has a good record for recruiting and developing some solid O-lines.
I don't think anyone is sayin he's as good as Coach Pittman but not far from him either.
As for him [bolting] he might at some point, but my guess is that he's here for a couple years maybe more. Dawgs rule!
From everything I'm hearing, I really like this. I've never been a big believer that a physical, run-heavy offense can't get the job done in this era. I fully expect (and frankly wouldn't mind) to see us stick with that as the bedrock philosophy. However, the importance of adaptability cannot be denied, and that is where this offense has struggled. A lot of it has been execution, particularly in the passing game, but I do think there's something to the idea that for the offense to really take the next step, it's going to take Smart loosening up a bit in wanting to be the sole controller of all aspects of the program.
Well, by all accounts, he's hiring an OL coach who's coming fresh off a HC job, and who has some different ideas on how to run an offense (so I hear, never payed much attention to Ole Miss tbh). So, what I find most intriguing about this move is its potential as an indication that Smart is willing to calibrate his approach and try something different in the name of expanding the team's potential. Let's hope!
Go Dawgs!
Next news I want to hear is Hines Ward named new wide receivers coach.
Pitt did a great job bringing in the road graders, but the road grader philosophy has not been what I was expecting. As we all know, road graders are good for moving in one direction...forward. Since virtually every team in the SEC now has giants on the DL, straight ahead blocking seems to play to the defenses strengths, especially with loaded boxes. If we have to sacrifice some size for agility and lateral movement, pulling guards and tackles, Luke should be the man to implement the strategy. At his other stops, he's had to do more with much less than what he will have to work with at UGA. Hopefully, he will bring some creativity to our blocking schemes.
Kirby wants to wear defenses down. Nothing wears a big man down more than making them pursue side to side.
