Recent history shows it's more likely Broderick Jones and Tate Ratledge redshirt than start

Why it might not be wise to expect Georgia football to start Broderick Jones and Tate Ratledge When Kirby Smart

Rinse and repeat.
What about John Theus??????? i believe he started as a freshman.
I believe you’re correct chillinn but that was under Richt and not Smart. Go Dawgs!
Jones: “Hopefully, I won’t have to redshirt and can start my freshman year.” I cannot see Jones redshirting. He needs to add weight is all. Learn the playbook. He is extremely naturally skilled. Ratledge, a very large lineman, however, needs practice to reveal his college capability. UGA lost its biggest offensive talent in Thomas...huge shoulder pads to fill. Coaches call.
Take a look at Kendall Milton: 2109 CA state running back of the year and was also state frosh running back of year in CA. I believe this kid could start at UGA. Depends on the performance of the current backs. But, I will venture to predict Milton starts some games with this year's stable of current RBs. Yes he will. I have my eye on him!
I understand that CKS (and maybe the writers at DawgNation) are trying to tamp down our expectations on these kids so as not to put too much pressure on THEM to all-everything their freshman season. I'm not saying that Jones and/or Ratledge will start, but I have a VERY hard time believing that players of that magnitude and skill level would be red-shirted. I think a more likely scenario (maybe not this year) is to see Truss and/or McClendon enter the transfer portal after one of these kids comes in and just takes over. But a red shirt? No way.
Congratulations to Kendall Milton. I hope the accolades are just beginning for him. Go Dawgs!
I am not sure I see the wisdom in red shirting the higher rated freshmen anymore. Granted, if they just can't contribute at all then maybe that is the way to go, but if they are going to leave the program after their junior year then all we did was waste a year of eligibility. It is a fine line for the coaches to walk. It helps with the rule about still being able to red shirt after playing in 4 games though. Also, you may want to save that red shirt year for after a potential injury that could lose all or most of a season. I just don't agree with the logic that most freshmen should get a red shirt anymore.
With the loss of OLs to the NFL, I expect them to at least contribute if not start based on recent trend of Thomas, Mays, Hill and Salyer.
ZERO chance Jones Redshirts,.
It will be interesting to see how the LT situation plays out this season. With the departure of Cade Mays, the Dawgs don't have an obvious guy to take this role, which is one of the most important positions on the line. Long term I see Broderick Jones as a good fit, but it will be a tall order to prepare him to start in 2020. Even Andrew Thomas needed a year at RT before being ready to play on the QB's blind side. Xavier Truss is a mountain of a man, but with that size and presumably lesser agility is more suited to the RT position. That leaves Warren McClendon or Owen Condon as far as experienced guys who might have a shot at the job, neither of whom have shown very much to this point to say they'll be a lock-down tackle. Does UGA try to bring someone in, or does Kirby have an ace up his sleeve?
