Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Team names
Since we are deep in the off season, I figured it was time for a good offseason thread. What team has the best nickname and what team has the worst? I'll start. I think the Orlando Magic is a pretty bad name. I understand why they chose it, but still not a fan. I am a fan of the name Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks. This can be for any sport. My examples are just from the NBA.
(Please don't make this a no team should be named after the Native Americans thread.)
Comments
I'll also say the Browns is awful.
I'm not sure whether to name it as one of the best or one of the worst but I feel like the Savannah bananas has to be somewhere in this thread.
AA baseball (Tampa Bay Rays). I think it's great, but many disagree.
Delta State Fighting Okra
Savannah Bananas: I have never been more wrong about a name, at least as how it translates into love for a team. When they proposed that name after the Sand Gnats left, I though it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard, and I work in branding. However it turned out to be marketing genius, as they've been killing it with ticket and merchandise sales ever since.
Is this for good or bad? Because I think that it's a pretty sweet name and mascot.
The NO Pelicans is pretty bad. Not funny or quirky. Just a lame mascot.
Not sure if these two examples are dumb, or simply interesting? First is UC Santa Cruz. They are the "Banana Slugs". The second is Georgia's own Cairo High School. They are the "Syrup makers".
I think the Utah Jazz is a dúmb name. As well as the Oakland Athletics.
Best names: Packers, Bears, Giants, Yankees, Warriors
Worst Names: Magic, Jazz, Chargers, Browns, Texans
Worst name has gotta be florida gators - disgusting, lazy creatures that sit around in scum filled swamps (like the one in Gainesville) all day, can't imagine any sane fan thinking wanting to associate that with their team
The Ole Miss Bears. Like, how many freaking bears are actually in Mississippi!? They should of never bent the knee to the outrage mob and kept their original name of The Rebels. It was unique and southern. It was not the nefarious intent some tried to apply to it.
DV away 🙄
