The more I see of him, the more I am impressed but there's also part of me that thinks he won't see the field this year. Yes, he may go through and maybe get his waiver, but still don't think that he plays. I think Kirby, in all honesty, went after him as insurance. I believe with him coming off a major knee injury, Kirby didn't sell it to him as, "you'll play the 1st play of the 1st game" like Tennessee and Michigan did. Kirby knows that he may or not be 1000% ready to play. I could be wrong and he could lead us to an SEC championship, but also don't want to ramp up expectations for him considering we already have a great, from what has been said, qb on the roster now.

I've watched all the tape on these guys. Beside Newman the QB who best looks the part of a prototypical pro QB is Carson Beck. He makes all the throws, 6' 4" Great touch though on all his deep throws. Can scramble(more athletic than Jake) . But not a true duel threat.

Some on here have likened Daniels to Jake Fromm "2.0" . I mentioned the other day - no Daniels has more speed and runs better than Jake(or he did ) before his injury. Mason confirmed the same thing. Quick release, doesn't hold the ball too long, get's rid of it,makes quick decisions. He looks comparable to Burrows when he takes off with the ball.

Brock is a strong looking, "raw boned" kind of guy. He is quick to leave the pocket and likes to throw on the run, looks accurate with above average arm strength, but in watching his tape he hardly ever squares his shoulders up. Think Brett Favre- a slinger of the ball. Not sure if I'm correct but he appears in the film I've watched to play for a Christian School who plays other christian schools-that doesn't always make for the highest level of competition as in your bigger public high schools. Take that for whatever it's worth.

Mathis is an imposing player from a height stand point. He is a gifted athlete. Might make an awesome wide receiver. As a QB from the tape I've seen he is quick to pull the ball down and run with it. And I can see why , he's a good runner. But he is thin, and the SEC will punish you, if you run too often and don't have a strong base. He seems antsy in the pocket IMO. Has a big arm but isn't polished IMO.

None of this speaks to what's in a guys heart. His leadership. His will to win no matter what the obstacle in front of them. Find that kid and stick with him. Give me the kid who has not only the giftedness but the spirit in him to prevail. Bama didn't beat us because they had the better teams, but they had a couple of guys who came in in pressure situations and lifted their team on their shoulders.

Mason: "But I was surprised, because it seems like, man,“how much more room do you have for quarterbacks?” Good point if Newman had three years eligibility. Smart is looking squarely at that very factor. Aside from Newman, you have one current mutli-year UGA QB of any report....Stetson Bennett. He is not a starter. IMO. Other than that you have ...Beck, D'Wan Mathis, and new transfer J.T. Daniels. Daniels, a 5-star, has the successful experience at the college level.....BUT...the ACL and meniscus issues in 2019. Smart must have looked at this before accepting Daniels into the Room. I don't think he is panicking at all...Newman could put up some great stats this year? D'Wan Mathis has already shown his QB mettle and is cleared to play. Carson Beck looks very promising in footage. Next year Is the telling year...enter Brock Vandagriff...5-star RPO QB who seems to be infatuated with UGA as he has been recruiting on a par with the coaches...lol. I like this young helmsman. Big strong kid with a rocket arm and accurate. Can move easily out of a troubled pocket for positive yardage running or throwing. Good head on those broad shoulders as well. Next year to me is the QB year. Daniels should be healed by then. I have to believe Newman will start this season. These are Coach Smart's options to date as I see them...but then..I am not a seer.

This is like having Tyler "the turnstile" Catalina provide insight on Andrew Thomas.

"elusive in the picket..." Can't understate the importance of that...

I hate to be the bearer of bad predictions. But I think Oklahoma flips Vandagriff, due to the busy QB room at UGA.

Perhaps, with the plethora of QB's, and an OC known for his "air raid" offense, maybe UGA can start pulling in the top WR's, out there?

Cool article - great to know we will have a qb coming in who can twerk while passing according to Mason's tweet. In that sentence there are two words that didn't exist that long ago. Hopefully next year we will have that Natty, which we haven't won since long, long ago. GO DAWGS!

He might but I think there is actually more QB competition at Oklahoma than at Georgia. And there probably always will be given the style of offence they run.

I don’t think Kirby expects JT to play this year due to waiver issues as well as the fact JT is coming off a significant knee injury 9 months ago. If he gets the waiver I think he doesn’t see the field until mid season and that would be in an emergency situation. JT will likely be our leader in 2021 when we open with Clemson. Go Dawgs and stay tuned.

Mike - I don't give a "flip" what Mason thinks about UGA. I know you have access to tons of credible people who have proven to be solid evaluators of talent, please refer to them next time.

Don't see it happening, he de-commited from Oklahoma because he wants to spend his college years closer to home..
