I am a 60 yr old white man. The death of George Floyd was one of the most brutal things I've ever seen in the sense of those cops seemed totally removed from his apparent pain and suffering, just another ho-um arrest they made it seemed , all the while by-standers pleading for George. I'm not ashamed to say I cried as I saw his lifeless body casually lifted onto that gurney, knowing full well that they killed that man. At that moment I seriously felt like that everyone, black, white, Democrat/Republican everyone in the whole nation was united against police brutality.
Then came the riots, the burnings, police killings all barely mentioned by the mainstream media, the attacks on innocent shop owners,etc...etc. People who are the worst of society destroying anything and everything with glee. Mainstream media portraying everything as "mostly peaceful protests." Poof! Now all the attention is off George Floyd and all that's left is something no one I know is going to get behind. All that good will and unity is being sabotaged by provocateurs. Antifa -Black LIves Matter "defund the police"- no thank you.
I saw one video of an ANTIFA germ make(demands) of a young white girl(maybe 25) get down on her knees and apologize to ANTIFA for her "white privilege" and told to say George Floyd's name. And she did it to show she was "woke". A truly disgusting power grab if I ever saw one. Can't even imagine what would of happened if it had been a young woman of color made to apologize for being black.
I don't see all of this ending well. I'm all for loving my fellow man but I'm not kissing someone's you know what to prove a point. Many of my white friends have stopped watching the NFL after the Kapernick deal. I can imagine many more will simply choose something different to watch on Sundays and drop season tickets and such. The NFL will continue to loose revenue for choosing to go down the political correctness path. These young men don't see that they are making enemies of people who aren't racist and love watching young black men play the game, but we love our country and aren't about to put up with this nonsensical idea that if you don't bow down and confess your sins of white privilege , "you're a racist", vitriol.
For many young black men a ticket to the NFL is they're only favorable chance at becoming wealthy. I wish them well. But I hope they're aware of their speech and how their attitude translates to those who in affect support them by supporting the League, buy their Jerseys, and cheer for them as they play. Anyone who knows Drew Brees or knows Jake From knows they are not racist. Not in the truest sense of the word.
Last year 48 or 49 police officers were gunned down on their jobs. I can think of no harder job than being a police officer where every day is a day you might not come home and you are dealing with by-in-large the worst of society and you cannot loose your cool for a single minute or else you can loose your job. Now with mayorships in these big cities where mayors are more interested in getting re-elected than in protecting the innocent, stopping rioting and arson and backing the police, who in their right mind would want their son or daughter becoming a policeman? For what? 40- 60 grand a year in most places?
Here's praying that we can all pull together peacefully, before we are all pulled apart by political wokeness.
I want to know how many of you that commented below or anywhere else has made a derogatory comment about anyone at anytime in your lives? ALL lives matter. But the problem is that when comments like this comes out either months or years later, and the person tries to apologize, that person is attacked by being accused that their apology isn’t sincere. Good grief. Ok, these comments should not be said, but when does FORGIVENESS get to come into the situation? I also heard a comment made by a reporter on espn about the Clemson coach that repeated a derogatory term 3 years ago. His comments were that he didn’t know the coach and doesn’t care for him. Really? He’s not supporting ALL lives matter. And anyone that thinks Fromm is racist should go take a long hard look in the mirror, even his current and former teammates that are making their negative comments.
OK, Fromm is not the starter for an elite college team. He is a 5th round, third string qharterback for the Buffalo Bills. Someone did some serious searching for this, meaning someone is searching high and low for dirt on anyone and everyone. This is pitiful. I would defy anyone to find a teammate or friend of Fromm's, black, white or whatever, to say he is racist.
This is just plain silly, as is the comment below where someone said Drew Brees was racist for saying he would never agree with someone kneeling to the flag. People are searching for ways to be offended and it is sick.
His friend put him out there. The fact is he's a closet racist and got exposed. This man made his name on the backs of his black skilled players who he really thinks he's better than. He's sry alright he's sry he got exposed. I was a Jake fan. Used to argue with the homies saying he was the man of Fields. He's a pos and like alot of UGA fans I've seen he's racist
This certainly doesn't fit with his public image and the comment is depolorable, but we are all sinners who would be in trouble if our innermost thoughts were exposed. That being said, this is small potatoes compared to the premeditated murder in Brunswick and the scumbag DA who refused to prosecute. That's the big story in the state of GA right now.
If this is/was a "friend", I want to see the entire conversation, including the before and after the "leaked" comment. It's easy to take a small portion of something and have it read completely different than the entirety. Think about a move review that reads "The greatest movie.......ever." The entire message may read "The greatest movie in the category of awful movies. Truly the worst movie I have seen, ever."
You can't pick and choose snippets and expect the truth from one sentence in a 400 sentence conversation. That is silly. And no one ever accused Fromm of anything other tan being a really good guy. Never a negative word from anyone. You'd think a racist would have been called out when he is the minority in the locker room. Nothing ever.
The guy made a mistake in a private conversation, I bet you all have said things on all different matters in private before that you would not want "leaked" to the public.... To crucify someone and call them racist based off a simple private text message is silly while ignoring all the positive he did for many in the community in and around Athens. Grow up people. Forgive and move on!
I am really pulling for the kid, but my guess is he wishes he was prepping for a senior season right about now. I've said far more off color comments as a joke in a private conversation during my lifetime (most people have), fortunately I have never had the spotlight shown this brightly on me. The spotlight needs to continue to shine on these sort of comments, and Jake and myself need to find someplace else to find our humor. We should all be afforded forgiveness over time, but we shouldn't forget and moving on quickly or rationalizing it does a disservice to anyone whose is offended by the comments.
Fromm was one of 11 players in the country to be named to the Allstate Good Works team. That is a very elite group that is recognized for their work in the community with groups of all races. He gave his time and talent to underprivileged youth. I don't know how you can construe a young man who is recognized for this exceptional personality and unselfishness as being bad.
I want to see the entire conversation. This woman deserves to be looked into. If you want to put a story out there, put the whole thing out there.
There is a bigger picture here than what's taking place on the surface. It's a power grab by Marxist seizing the moment to enhance themselves or their agendas and to reconstruct society to their crazy utopian dream. For example a world without borders, really? A world without police? Really? I mean these things sound nuts to older more rationally thinking people. Marxism? Communism? Please! Anti-capitalism? Seriously? But you need to check out the Black LIves Matter websites or ANTIFA(young whites) and educate yourselves.
These young black men (football players and young black people in general)who rightfully are super-sensitive to every hint of prejudice or racism are being used as pawns in a bigger game than even they understand. They are being stoked and for a reason, and it's not about ending police brutality. If the Black LIves Matter movement was about saving black lives then they would be marching in Chicago and other major cities where Black on Black killings are through the roof, if that truly was their ultimate goal. It's not. It's more about changing the fundamentals of our nation. Ending Systemic racism is only a rallying cry. It's not their endgame., which is more about class warfare. These ideologies do not, I repeat, do not want us to "just all get along" , they would all be out of business if that happened.
I have no problem saying black lives matter, if by saying that you are confessing that yes racism exists in our nation, and we can do better. Only a fool would say otherwise, but has race relations improved in the last 50 years in our country ? Only a fool would say, no! Is there more room for improvement? Of course! But sadly, to say "black lives matter" means something more than that. It is to succumb to a certain ideology that is using every racial slur, every race related incident as a crudgel to fundamentally change America, and not like the less informed believe.
It has become religion. And like the inquisition, there are no innocent accused blasphemers, only those who need torturing until they confess their sin of blasphemy.
I loved Fromm so it pains me to see that this isn't going to help his career. However, he is a grown man and need to take responsiblity for his past action, whatever it is. Hopefully he will learn and be a better person, NFL or no NFL.
The female that put Jake Fromm out there to be ridiculed and vilified is just trying to have her five minutes of fame. The whole tweet should be released not just a few snippets of the private conversation. I do not think for one second that Jake is a racist. This person has now caused threats by others against Jake and his family.
Drew Brees was vilified for stating he wouldn't desecrate the American Flag, even his teammates turned on him. A lot of Saint fans were heard shouting **** Drew Breese.
The killing of any unarmed person by police should not be tolerated, and they should be prosecuted for it.
To all you people saying she should release the entire text, Jake to do that at anytime if it helps him defend himself.
I always liked Jake Fromm, though I never met him. I had no reason to think that he is racist. But he said what he said. And the problem that most people who are rushing in to say, "forgive him and move on" are overlooking is that, until this came to light -- as far as we know he STILL had those feelings and beliefs. And if his comments hadn't come to light, he likely would have kept on with those same thoughts and feelings. The fact that he apologized tells us that he either truly believes what he said was wrong OR, he has to say it to help his own cause. Either way, there is no way for us to know whether he is genuine but I find it hard to believe someone can change their life's philosophy in just 24 hours. It's disappointing because the question burns, why would he THINK like that in the first place, regardless of whether he actually spoke it out loud (or texted as it were). It's the fact that he even has (had) that mindset that is troubling. He already was facing long odds of making the Bills as a 5th round draft choice and I think those odds just got a lot longer, if they even still exist at all. Go Dawgs!
