Without Jamie Newman, UGA offensive success will hinge on Todd Monken abilities

Georgia football offense this year will now say a lot more about Todd Monken than the quarterbacks Since Jamie

Next man up. Although I think it was a late decision being this close to the season opener, I believe we have other guys that can play. I personally don’t know Jamie, so I really cannot say if we would have been successful with him or without him. I feel his departure will make the other qb’s work harder to help the team. Our dawgs are resilient, they will answer this challenge do what they do. They will stay focused and keep going to work. Go Dawgs!
Even before all of this happened, I had Newman and Daniels as being pretty close. I do think we are forgetting that this is a rebuilt offense. That said I've always believed that for the Dawgs to seriously challenge for a National Title this year a QB will have to step up and play way over his head.
The only difference I see now is that many people will now have a built in excuse if the Dawgs don't make it this year. That will be that Newman left and Monken can't coach.
My opinion is that this could very well be a rebuilding year for the Dawgs
I’m always entertained when athletes say, “I’m taking the year off to prepare for the NFL draft”. What the heck are they doing to prepare that is better than actually playing in games, especially against SEC teams? Good grief!!! Go Dawgs!!!
Not sure what happened in the scrimmage, what he saw or felt but obviously it wasn't good(receivers not getting separation or O-line not handling the rush very well, just not sure, but whatever it was he didn't like the feel of it. Rather than dis the team he used the COVID excuse. Not believable but better than dissing the team or Monken.
Jamie looked out for Jamie. UGA could have been a great opportunity to improve his stats...possibly. And, as someone already commented, he could have prepared for the NFL much better playing for UGA than "preparing for the NFL" outside. That is a lame argument. He was definitely not a team player. Monken now is in a very untenable situation. JT Daniels isn't even cleared to play full contact! Twenty three days to game time!! This will have to be a rebuilding year for UGA. Maybe, just maybe, Monken and Luke can pull it off and salvage a respectable season tally. Smart even said they played a "sloppy" scrimmage. Other teams may be in the same situation, so we will see, won't we.
PS..I do not react well to quitters. Covid has become THE excuse. Look at LSU!
I appreciate you not even bother to mention Schottenheimer as a former OC. He hardly deserves it.
I think he just called another up the middle run from a tight formation on 3rd and 7.
Not an even comparison between UGA 2020 offense and LSU 2019 offense. Primarily because of LSU having so many healthy star receivers. Hell, if UGA just had Cager healthy all year, they would have been undefeated going into SEC Championship and would have gave LSU a much better game. Throw one of LSU's receivers on UGA's offense and its game on. Receivers matter too. Not just QB's and coaches. So does blocking and running backs but in this instance, UGA HAD A DESCIMATED RECEIVING CORP THAT YOU WRITERS OVERLOOK 90% OF THE TIME AS FAR AS NOT GIVING IT THE IMPACT IT DESERVED. MORE THAN COLEY AND CERTAINLY MORE THAN FROMM...Just having Cager on the field increased Fromm's completion percentage more than 10 points higher. Imagine if there was say a returning Mecole Hardman last year? Whole different narrative would be going on about the entire UGA offense. Players matter and when you have lost your top 6-7 receivers from the year prior, then lose MORE for all or a significant part of the season...what you expect? A top 10 passing offense? An LSU offense?
I think Tom Monken has the intuition to find the right players and then maximize their talent. Also, Kirby need to win a national championship with Todd because the former sec head coaches who had to hire more than two OC/DC have a very poor track record of winning a national championship title.
This is only speculation, mind you, but I think that Jamie realized he wasn't progressing as fast as he wanted to, or as fast as Smart and Monkin wanted him to. He might have had a difficult time picking up on Monkin's offense. Maybe he thought that Daniels was biting at his heels and might be named the starter. Who knows? Nevertheless, it's time for the other QB's to step up. Frankly, I'm more worried about our WR's stepping up.
