    Wouldn't it be something if Bennett got the chance and gripped the qb job by the throat like Jake did?

    Smart doesn't know if Bennett QB'd against the 1s? Must be a casual statement. Clear JT and you have your opener QB. Mathis will likely see touch time as well. Bennett would have been a factor long ago if he were being seriously considered. Granted, times have changed.

    Exactly. From all accounts Newman was the leading performer in the room, and I have no doubt he worked his butt off to win the starting job. Still the coaching staff didn't want to name him the starter for one reason or another. "Iron Sharpens Iron" does not always produce the best results with QB's as we've seen several times in the last few years.
