"I’ll explain on today’s show why new offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s impact remains the biggest unanswered question for UGA this season regardless of the starting quarterback."
Really? Regardless of the QB? Come on Brandon. Remove the starting QB and you have no offense! QBs are the helmsmen of any football team. Monken knows what he is doing. His problem is no time in which to do it. It is not really an unanswered question but a matter of timing. How much can he accomplish by Sept 26 is the real question. You will see his impact first game. He is a pro. UGA will benefit.
I agree that Monken has to build an offense around the talent on the team placing the QB and other players in the best position to win. However, the QB has to make plays outside the offense at points during the season for UGA to win the big games. In other words, the QB can't just run or manage the offense, he has to make plays. Those plays may be avoiding pressure and making a big play with his arm, or breaking the pocket and making plays with his legs. That hasn't happened in the last few years. Fromm ran the offense as called, but he didn't make the play that won the big game: see Alabama (NC 2017), LSU (2018), USC (2019) and LSU (SEC championship 2019). Those games and that level of competition are when you need that special guy at QB.
Great point about Newman questioning Kirby's decision on choosing a starting QB. Newman worked out with Fields this summer and they had to talk about Field's time at UGA. Kirby chose Fromm over Eason and we know Eason is the most talented based on NFL draft evaluators. In 2018, Kirby chose Fromm over Fields and we saw Fields step on the field at OSU and take them to the NC semi-finals and get invited to the Heisman trophy presentation. I think Newman got nervous when Kirby wouldn't commit to him as the starter and decided he was better sitting out than rotating or standing on the sideline at UGA. If thats the case, I can't blame him based on recent history.
