At no point has JT Daniels been cleared for game action during this fall for Georgia. But he has been cleared to practice and has done so with the Bulldogs for the last 17 practices. Mike: "On Tuesday, the Georgia coach though also revealed that Daniels had to have a second operation done on the knee in January."

This tells us why he is still recovering. I did not know he had a second operation...though minor. I simply cannot see Daniels starting on the 26th. Could be wrong. I can see Mathis, but not Daniels. Taking a hard hit...rare ...but happens...to me would be too risky.

Why don't we just say it this way: "Mathis is expected to start against Arkansas, unless Daniels is cleared to play, which at this point is still up in the air."

In reality, I don't believe it's up in the air, UNLESS CKS actually knows that Daniels won't be cleared and is trying to play mind games with Arkansas so that they have to prepare for both quarterbacks. I don't think that's the case, but it's also hard to believe that he would want to go into the first game of the season, a conference game at that, waiting until kickoff to determine who's going to start. That just doesn't seem like the Kirby way as he hasn't done that in any year since he's been the head coach. At some point, days or weeks before the game, he's named a number 1 QB, even if he allows the competition for the job to continue throughout the year as he did with Fromm and Fields.
