And with the top pick in the NBA draft...

The Minnesota Tiberwolves select Anthony Edwards from the University of Georgia.

I know we are mostly a football focused board, but this is HUGE! Dominique didn’t do this. KCP didn’t do this. But Anthony Edwards set a new mark being the only #1 NBA pick in school history and only the second in all sports other than Matt Stafford. (Not sure how we account for the USFL and the goal-line stalker.)

His selection is throwing a Georgia jersey all over the news.

Congrats, Ant Man, a DGD.

Its crazy that 3 top 15 guys are from the state of Georgia as well

Having a number one pick has to help our recruiting. Edwards also thanked UGA and credited our program with helping him develop several times last night on national media.

Congrats to Ant Man! I wonder if Rayshaun Hammonds is going to get picked up by a team. I would say he should've stayed for another year but in hindsight, who knows what Coach Crean's plans are for the season.

In other news, I was reading that Coach Crean had a call with Aminu Mohammed, a 5-star SF prospect out of DC. Would be a tremendous get!

Third. Charlie Trippi was the first in the 40s.

Very happy for the young man.

I hope it trends with recruits. The basketball games are fun.

We went to a heartbreaker against Bama this past season. My son actually started crying...Haha.

After the NC game and the SEC CG and recently at Tuscaloosa he hates Bama.

I hate the NBA but good luck to him.

It doesn't speak to Crean and his coaching ability. The kid could have gone anywhere and still be the #1 pick. Love UGA basketball and the way the program is headed. Crean did nothing to make that young man the #1 pick, God given.

As a coach Crean only wins 59% of the time. That ain't great. The big boy coaches all sit @ 75% or better. Take it in, and get over the fan boy stuff. Facts are facts. Why'd IU let him go? answer 59%.

    @Odin

What's your deal? Nobody credited CTC with "making" Edwards or getting him drafted #1. And there are no "fanboy" posts on this thread. You're like a troll arguing with his shadow.

Just trying to stir it up. Sorry I upset you. Board is slow and boring.

I don't keep track with basketball much but I don't remember standing out that much last year...the record sure did not reflect his presence

  • dawg1119dawg1119 Posts: 52 ✭✭✭ Junior

I don’t disagree with you necessarily, but that still helps when CTC can say: look you don’t have to go to a blue blood program to go number one

Last time UGA had a phenom take to the NBA (Dominique Wilkins 3rd pick in a very deep draft that many years would have gone first) the next year went to the final four. Crean's Dawgs are still loaded with four top 100 players from last years class, and some interesting transfers along with two new recruits in the top 125 or so. Looking forward to an interesting season. My son loves basketball and longs to see us take a step towards competing. I get really tired of the constant negative drivel that permeates some pessimistic fans of our teams - both football and basketball.
