The playoff expansion conversation seems to have been based largely on the one-off 2020 conundrum that Ohio State presents. I found it absurd. Apparently it needs to be pointed out yet again that THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A BUBBLE. Are we really expected to believe that the difference between #4 and #5 is negligible, but #16 will always be clearly superior to #17? That Bama blowing out the #4 team raises eyebrows over the integrity of the system, but having them play the #8 team instead, now THAT'S gonna be a game! This is the end goal for which we're going to water down the entire regular season? And while I can agree that there's a debate to be had about the best selection process, I don't think automatic bids are a good idea. As the Big and PAC 12s are aptly demonstrating, winning conference X doesn't necessarily do anything to establish that a team might be the best in the country. As I see it, it adds an extra layer of watering down not just the regular season, but the playoff itself.

Don't get me wrong, I know the money involved makes expansion inevitable. But I have yet to hear a compelling argument that it's going to be better for the game.

And yes, I know that an 8+ team playoff would benefit Georgia in a year like the one we've had, but that illustrates my point. Such a system would have pretty much rendered moot the first 60% of the season.

The Kirby Smart discussion is at the 30 minute mark, not 20 minute mark. Just FYI
