Glad to see Lanning stay. He will get a HC offer soon enough.

A "lateral" move to Texas would have been a demotion. Good call by Lanning.

Thank you Lanning for your loyalty to CKS, UGA and your players! It is wonderful and refreshing to see a leader pursue the most important things in life over monetary or career gain.

This man has a good head for his career path. This is good for the UGA brand image. Go Dawgs!

I think it was a smart move for Lanning and great for himself and UGA. It doesn't make sense to move from one DC position to another if his goal is to be a head coach somewhere. He has a great reputation and he will continue to improve upon that at UGA. Moving to another program as a DC would not improve his chances of getting the head job somewhere else. If he keeps doing what he's doing, he will have his choice of HC jobs just as Kirby Smart did. This offer from Texas should get him some leverage the next time they discuss his compensation.

What a testimony to Kirby Smart, the Georgia defensive talent and dominance, and the DawgNation! We're set for a tremendous year in 2021. Dan Lanning will do a wonderful job with this years defensive talent. All of DawgNation should be looking forward to a season to a season, the likes of which, we haven't seen since 1980. GO DAWGS!!!

I'm sure Lanning will get a raise after this season, and other teams showing interest. He deserves it.

Great that he is coming back. We are going to need him with all the changes in the secondary. Also with the number of defensive players coming back like Jordan Davis, it would not be good if their DC bailed for a lateral move. I think this signals two things: 1) Lanning will be getting a big raise, and 2) he is likely gone for a HC position this time next year. That is assuming of course that the Dawgs have the type of season everyone expects they can have next year. Go Dawgs!

Didn't understand why he would be interested in another DC job unless he wanted to show what he could do on his own without Kirby's influence.

Why the flocking heck woulda post a trolling comment? A clue: DAWGs are tuned UP, and you 're not in the choir.

Good news with all the positivity coming out with all the buy in with players returning; to lose him would have been a buzz kill for the players I'm sure. 2021 or bust!

Kirby once said Nick told him if you leave make sure it’s a better job, like a HC. Don’t make a lateral move for the same position.

I think Lanning got the same advice from Kirby.
