Dawg Fans, I am with all of you when it comes to NOT writing articles about Newman and the fact that he shouldn't don the G on his helmet at the Senior Bowl. However, can we please show a little class and stop calling these young men idiots and cowards because we don't agree with them! He made his decision and he now has to live with it period. Many of you probably won't agree with me and that's fine but I just think of Newman's parents and how they feel when you call their child those names. I know Dawg Fans have more class than this so let's please show it. Having a championship program not only happens on the field but in the community its representing as well...

    GO DAWGS!!!

23 viewer comments on the most recent 6 articles combined and 33 comments on the 2 articles combined on Newman. I'd say Mike got what he wanted.

Good. Let the poser wear his worthless demon deacon crap. He was probably hoping the G on his helmet would score him some points. I'm sure, in the minds of Wake Forest, he'll always be a DGDD. Buh bye.

And we are subjected to it because we can't resist clicking to read it. 🤣🤣

Jamie had a tough decision and I respect that. He made the decision that he felt best for him. The timing of that decision was somewhat selfish but then again, I don’t know the true circumstances that drove that decision and the timing of it. I don’t consider him a Dawg but I’m not going to go rogue and insult him with names.

I won't call Newman names or fill this space with vitriol, but I do find some contradictions in this story that Mike wrote (keeping in mind that there are ZERO quotes from Newman in here so we don't really know what HE thinks). But from reading Mike's article it would seem that he opted out because he wasn't going to be the guaranteed starter, not because of COVID. Also, although all of these other players say they understand and that it was "a business decision," I find it odd that Newman was the ONLY UGA player to opt out. Even the ones who are at the Senior Bowl decided to play. So what was his deal? Maybe he has some underlying health condition that we are not aware of (and the school can't tell us about), but it just sounded fishy. Also, it's amazing to me that a guy who didn't play all year will just prance into an all-star game (really, scrimmage) and do so well that he becomes a high draft pick. And finally, as another poster here noted, COVID-19 is still raging. In fact, despite the development of a vaccine, it's worse now than it was a year ago. Yet Newman has opted to practice and compete in the Senior Bowl and would, presumably, play in the NFL if drafted. I guess his real problem with UGA then, was that we couldn't pay him to play. Go Dawgs!

Mike - while I wish him well, I don't give a **** about the comings and goings of this guy. Do you normally do stories about non Dawgs? Please don't waste the space on the site.

Notice how the tone of the senior bowl folks and some of the media is trying to turn Newman into the victim here? The power the media has and it's ability to manipulate the masses through words will be our downfall as a society.

On on hand, I want to agree with you. And 99% of the time I would.

But on the other hand, I think a public shaming of someone that abandons their responsibility and commitment right when it's needed the most is kind of called for. Maybe we need to call out folks for things like this a little more. Rather than rationalize crappy behavior as a "business decision".

They keep taking the popularity of the sport for granted. Keep biting the hand that feeds you and it may stop.

No story, move on to UGA players!

More to the story than meets the eye. Perhaps we'll never know what truly happened. Obviously, there is more there than a 5th year senior transfer being scared of COVID. I would like to know if Kirby bungled the situation. He has done that before to a degree with QB's, not just my opinion. Here are a couple of questions I wish Mike or someone could answer:

    1. In what world is Dwan Mathis beating out Newman for the starting QB? That is one of the rumors floating around. In Kirby's world? If so then that is horrible!! Kirby likes to turn everything into a "competition." Just roll the tape on Newman. What does Dwan have? Low level competition HS film? You would really give your starting QB position to a newbie over a guy who was projected to be at least a 2nd round pick way back in the summer with gobs of experience? That can't be possible! We all saw the **** Dwan laid against Arkansas. Kirby thought Dwan gave us a better chance of winning than Stetson. Seriously? So much for the ability to identify who has it and who doesn't in practice.
    2. Was Newman afraid of JT? JT was injured and wasn't even ready for action til November. I don't think that was it.
    3. Was Newman rehabbing an injury himself?
    4. Was it just some insult from Kirby not naming Newman the starter from the get go?
    5. Was Newman having a bad summer camp? If so, then what was the deal. Was it his attitude? Sore arm? Couldn't get the playbook down?
    6. Newman may have just for whatever reason been a huge question mark to Kirby and Newman wasn't buying in to Kirby's questioning him.
    7. If you like "who-dunnits" and conspiracy theories, this is a good one.
