    BA, as fans, it makes sense to say we want our team to be as effective as the Alabamas and Clemsons of the world, as you did at the start of Thursday’s show. However, I don’t think we can expect Coach Smart to make that assertion when talking about the Dawgs’ team identity.

    I don’t think it works for the coaches to try to define the team identity by saying “we want to be like that team over there.” Our guys have to identify themselves by their own standard, their own expectations, and by the internal fire that drives them. Those characteristics will define the team and help a chemistry to form. As the grind of spring and fall camps carries into the season, it will be that identity and chemistry that will sustain them. If the team starts looking externally for identity, I believe it will be destructive, not beneficial.
