Well, we did it against Auburn in our rematch against them in 2017...beat them up good in the SEC Championship so we could lose in the final minutes against...nemisis Bama in the National Championship game....Ugh. Gotta stop that record from playing!
You never know with Spurrier if he's sincere or not. He could be setting up his next dig. 'Why didin't they play man to man like I suggested?' "I don't know what Kirby was thinking."
I heard recently - I think from Towers in a 92.9 interview - that we hurried Young something like 15 times in that last game. Came away with 0 sacks. So the scheme was putting guys in position to make the plays that needed to be made, they just weren't making them. Add to that the rampant blown coverages, which obviously are not inherent to playing zone, and Young and his receivers ended up feasting.
All this to say, I'm not sure that any fundamental change in the game plan is necessary. If they're able to finish plays in which they get to the quarterback, and can clean up the assignments on the back end (which they've had over a month to work on), then they could conceivably be successful without changing up the scheme all that much and having to rely on the relative weak spot (secondary) to keep the whole thing afloat.
Just a casual observation from a casual observer. Someone who knows more about this stuff may be able to point out what's wrong with this synopsis.

I'd like to see the Georgia ground game grind it out, keeping Young off the field and totally deflating their defense.
Given the success other teams had pressing Alabama, it's surprising Georgia used zone coverage. It's like Georgia knew there would be a rematch and they wanted to save their best for the championship game.
Saw a quote from the Cincinnati coach. Something to the effect that it is not always the “best” team that wins, but rather the team that plays the best who does. We'll soon see if that describes us.
