Nick Saban blames his players for UGA loss
The finger-pointing continues at Alabama after last month’s upset loss to Georgia in the national championship game.
Comments
He makes some good points about players being "outcomes based." They don't get enough touches, enough catches, enough playing time and they get disgruntled, which shows up in practice and preparation and ultimately in the games.
I don't know about the "unsurprisingly, none of the fingers pointed at himself" comment. I have never seen Nick Saban as one who intentionally throws players under the bus. So, to me at least, that IS a bit surprising.
Whoa Nellie! He just threw those players under the bus! Maybe he wants them to enter the portal. Who knows? But to say this publicly, just seems so inappropriate. Of course, the roll tiders will defend him. It’s what they do.
Who recruited those 3 players? Who’s responsible for motivating those guys? Who’s responsible for coaching-up players who aren’t starters? Who’s responsible for coaching the team and not making excuses? Just asking.
Now that's championship trophy quality finger pointing!
DIs at Parris Island could go to school on this guy.
Didn't he recruit these guys because they want the ball? Maybe he should consider giving it to them more often. Don't they platoon at Bama? Kirby does.
Well, gee, our trio of freshmen played really well. Does Nick think our freshmen are better than his?
Cry me a freaking river. You failed in this instance, Nick. It's not the players fault they weren't "ready," iron sharpens iron. Tell us you failed by not properly rotating younger players in during games and getting them reps with the 2's and 1's in practice. You rested on your laurels. It happens.
I guess the loss had nothing to do with the talent and coaching of UGA. The loss happened because of 3 or 4 players according to saban. Not a thing to do with the DAWGS Defense shutting down Bryce Young and company. Nothing to do with the offense scoring a 15 point win, the 2nd worst defeat during sabans's time at Bama. Nothing to do with. UGA coaching either. 3 or 4 players lost the game for Bama, nice way to distribute the blame. Throw the players under the bus that keep you employed, real smart Nicky.
"Interestingly, Saban did not comment on his role or his staff’s role in preparing the young players."
Best quote of the article!! Loved how you ended the post, Mr. Carvell! That right there said it all. Huge Mic drop!
As other posters have said, the Bama coaching staff SHOULD BE the ones responsible for getting the backups motivated and ready to play. If as Coach Saban says that "they did not take advantage of the opportunity" then that is solely on him and his coaching staff . If they were not ready then, as Harry S. Truman said "The buck stops (t)here."
I know Coach Kirby and his staff had their backups ready to play from Day One! And to diminish the win by UGA in such a manner of excuse-making by Coach Saban is, well, ......inexcusable!!
Thanks for the great article @michaelcarvell !
Go Dawgs!
yes, own it , as they say!!
Go Dawgs!
Just bulletin board material, I'm thinking!!
Go Dawgs!
Hmmm, I believe we had players either playing for injured teammates or playing out of position, too. It didn’t seem to bother us. Better change that No Excuses sign now. Even the head coach has excuses. Go Dawgs!! Nat’l Champs!!
So what exactly made this an "embarrassing" loss to Georgia for Alabama, Michael? We were ranked #1 most of the season and generally acknowledged as the best team in the nation -- at least until the SEC Championship Game.
Those were very interesting comments from Saban. "Outcome oriented", isn't that why Jermaine Burton went to Alabama? Sounds like we did get to him because he was not normally that way, of course I can't say I know him well.
