First... UGA was a better team. Period.
Second... all teams have injuries. UGA lost it's starting QB early in the season, #1 WR in the spring (1st Rounder), top edge rusher, 2 or 3 key secondary pieces (Tykee, Kimber, Chris Smith), our fastest WR (Arian Smith) for the year, offensive linemen... and we had guys STEP UP... including freshmen (Bowers, McConkey, Broderick), Beal...
If Bama had Metchie and Williams, would the championship game have been different? Of course! If UGA had a fully healthy Pickens and JT Daniels ALL year and starting in the SEC championship game and national championship, along with Adam Anderson, Tykee, Kimber, Chris Smith, Arian... etc... would it have been different? Of course!
Injuries are a part of the game. UGA was just a deeper team and our kids stepped up and performed when they needed to.
It's the coaches responsibility to develop and prepare the backups to be ready to step in and succeed/excel when needed. The UGA coaching staff did a much better job than Bama... and it showed all year.
Well, That's a shame.
Interesting that Saban would talk so pointedly talk about players who are worried about outcomes ("They’re outcome oriented, they want to worry about how many balls they catch or how much playing time they get or whatever it is.") and yet he accepted a player (JB) from UGA through the portal who appears to have left for basically that very reason. At least that's what you'd glean from all the posts on DawgNation as to why JB hit the portal.
doubledawg 1990. You beat me to that exact quote. Well said and I feel it fits that player to a perfectly.
How many starters was Bama missing from their O- line - D-line? Thay must have been missing a lot.
Otherwise, the Dawgs O-line and D-line doesn't dominate - especially in the 4th quarter, aright...
The 4th quarter decided that game. The Dawgs O-line put the Bama D-line on skates and RBU started doing RBU things, which opened up the play-action passing game. The Bama O-line couldn't protect Young because they were getting dominated by the Dawgs front-7. That is the story of how Georgia beat Bama 33-18 for the 2021 National Championship.
So I think what he’s trying to say is that Kirby’s players bought in to his system and Saban’s didn’t.
The NCAA transfer portal is partly to blame. If you're not getting in the field, you just pack up your stuff and hit the portal. That's probably what these guys were thinking. Instead of being ready to play, for Alabama, they were just waiting for a chance to play for Alcorn State.
Interesting, that Burton chose to transfer out of the frying pan and into the fire. LOL
The multi-million dollar coaches...that's who. Coach em up Saban or move em to the practice squad or run em off. That's your job.
It seems to me that recruiting players with the "right" attitude fall on the head coach of whatever sport is being played. I've seen a lot of experts express the opinion that "coaching up" the players that you have involves making sure that they "buy in" to what the coach is selling or moving on to someone else who "bought in" to the system. Taken as a whole, Coach Saban's comments seem to point the finger of the root of the problem right back at himself.
Regardless of the myriad of excuses from Nick the Dawgs were ready to play in the 4th qtr, Bama wasn't. Great game, great season and I think we will be formidable next year as well....
Trio???? We had more than 3. Kelee Ringo, Brodrick Jones, Van Pran, Adonis Mitchell, Ladd McConkey, Arian Smith,, Brock Bowers, just to name a few off the top of my head. 4 of them made the Freshman All-American Team.
UGA's Freshmen were better than BAMA's Freshmen. Like Paul Finebaum said, "You don't win National Championships in January. You win them in pre-Spring workouts, Spring Practice, Summer workout programs, recruiting, coaching and preparation.". UGA flat out did a better job of that and now they are Champions. It's just that simple.
There are no excuses...especially if you're Alabama. Their recruiting classes have supposedly been just as good as UGA's, if you believe the metrics put out by ESPN and other sports outlets. The one thing those guys can't and don't quantify, is Heart and mental toughness. Smart and his crew are the best at identifying those attributes...IMO.
Git em big "D".
Throwing players under the bus! LOL Way to go Nick, keep talking like that and more and more recruits will come our way.
I don't think Smart wants the type of player he described in his rant. I have a feeling, you'll be hearing the same thing come out of Jimbo Fishers mouth in 2 or 3 years. He didn't cull em either. Took all comers as long as they had at least 4-5 STARS after their name.
That's not the Smart method. Excuse the pun. LOL
Good, God, what a crybaby! Saban is the biggest crybaby in all of sports. It’s been over a month since we’ve won the natty, and he’s still crying and making excuses. Maybe he needs his diaper changed! 😂
Hush little Saban, please don’t cry. Take this tissue and dry your eye. 🤣
GO DAWGS!
