Coaches didn't even consider him a starter this time last year, even as late as the summer. Either the coaches don't know as much as we give them credit for concerning the best QB's or JT just looked that much better to them. Can't really have it both ways. A healthy JT is better than SB (legs and all). At some point JT couldn't be JT due to his health and SB took advantege of it, and played well enough for the change back to JT to be too much of upsetting the apple cart or they just became believers in SB.

Great story, if some smart Hollywood person doesn't make a movie out of this, they are wasting one of the greatest sports stories ever, in any sport.

Almost guaranteed that he's the week 1 starter (unless Beck/BVG severely outplay him...which is possible), but he's definitely on a short leash. The article says that Bennett reached out, not that Kirby was trying to keep him. Also they want to see improvements in leadership and other aspects...like going to class lol. Not things you want to hear about a 24yr old 6th yr senior 🤔 i wont be surprised if Beck or BVG takes over during the season

About as candid a conversation you will ever hear from a QB. Refreshing not to just hear coach speak.

Mike G.: "Georgia doesn’t split many of the No. 1 reps to begin with, and this spring, a shortage of receivers will make it even harder on Carson Beck or Brock Vandagriff to make a move on the depth chart." This makes it bleak for Brock V. and Carson B. to even think about getting much playing time. They will likely stick it out until at least a #2 is decided...then one may leave. Just thinking out loud here. Playing time is generally three years now before moving on to the League. Knowing Bennett has already been awarded the #1 slot for '22...unlike Kirby...would give me pause as a rival UGA QB. It will be interesting to be sure as we near G-Day.

This article helped me appreciate the magnitude of Bennett’s accomplishments. I had forgotten that he was rarely getting meaningful practice with our #1 team because he was our 3rd or 4th string QB going into the past few seasons. In 2020 he had Mathis, Newman and even an injured JT ahead of him. In 2021 he was behind JT and I think Beck. It’s truly amazing that he was able to come in and take control like a seasoned veteran. Now it will be fun to see how he performs after working with the “starters” through Spring and Summer practices. Go Dawgs!!!

@MikeGriffith , do you pick the pictures that lead at the top of these articles?

Got to class? Did he switch majors? Going into 6th year and yeah one year was at JUCO but he should be graduating or already have graduated. Do they have to take classes even after they have completed all of their required classes to be football eligible? He should be done with classes.

He's not 24. Only fake news Mike continues to push this narrative. He's 23 going on 24 in 0ct of 2022. Consider this, if he were actually 24, he would have turned 19 in Oct of his Senior year of high school, which was 2016. He would have turned 20 in his Freshman year of college...Oct 2017.

Does that make sense to anybody but, Mike Griffith and the AJC? Even Kirby Smart said he was 23 going on 24.

Another thing that revisionist Griffith keeps pushing, is that Beck was #2 going into the Clemson game. That's just false. Smart never identified the QB depth chart until after the Clemson game. He named Beck as the #2 QB, when it had already been determined Daniels would not start against UAB...which Smart also did not share with the media. It was assumed at that point that Daniels was #1 and Bennett #3....but, unbeknownst to the media, Beck was only identified as "#2 QB" after it was decided Bennett would start the UAB game. Nobody knew that at the time.. and, wouldn't know it until warm-ups at the UAB game.

The DawgNation media now tries to assert they knew the depth chart, but, at the time, even ESPN said that the only reason Beck was named #2, was because privately, Bennett had been named #1.

If Daniels had gone down in the Clemson game, Bennett would have replaced him, because he was the #2 all along. Beck took most of the #2 reps in practice because they had to get him ready and as Smart said in 2020, they knew what they had in Bennett and what he could do. It wasn't as critical to get him #2 reps. That's what misled Griffith and the rest of DawgNation.

It's not just about talent. It's about experience, leadership and poise. Talent is a given. All of UGA's QB's have talent, but only 1 has been to the playoffs and won a National Championship...in the closing minutes of the 4th qtr., no less.

Bennett's "the guy" now. He has full command of Monkin's offense as well as Smart and Monkin's confidence. No amount of Spring ball is going to shake that.

I'm glad Bennett is back for another year. Simply put, he has experience and has delivered in the biggest games.

No other QB on the roster has experience. Whoever takes over at QB next season will be much better prepared to do so after another year in the system.
