It speaks to where the Georgia football program is at that having the No. 1 ranking is such a non-story.

Rankings this early in the season does not mean anything. It is about what the product look like on the field. What statement is being made when you play your foe. The rankings only counts when the committee is assembled. If your not in the top 10 during the committee rankings, then your chances of winning a natty is out the window. Georgia need to continue to work towards the standards they have set. If they don't play to those standards each and every game, then why have standards. Those standards will get them to where they need to be at the end of the season. Goergia have a lot of young guys on the rosters and guys with little playing time, so I believe Kirby when he says he doesn't have time to be thinking about rankings.
Rankings mean nothing until the regular season is over.
Rankings may have some bearing on recruiting.
I don’t know that anyone is considering the full scope of value that rankings DO have. While they may not matter to the team directly, I think they do have an impact on the mentality of teams we face. Sure, you’d expect everyone to give you their best all the time, but I’m a firm believer that that number 1 makes for a bullseye, and that opposing teams tend to want to work a little harder to take that away.
