Get ready for the party. Better known as the Phoenix Open. For all of you Football fans, this one is worth a watch. Expected attendance is 220,000 and only surpassed by the Indy 500's attendance of 250,000.
I said party and it is. Just check out the raucous crowd in the massive stadium they built around the 16th hole. And if someone manages a hole-in-one on this par 3, well it gets beyond rowdy with beer flying everywhere.
Oh yeah. Unlike the cold, rain, and wind from last week's tournament in Cali, the forecast in Phoenix is sunny with highs in the 70's.
Party on golf fans!

Here’s a great fun clip of Tiger discussing his hole in one there. Classic!

Such a great tournament hole. They will boo you (in good fun) if you miss the green. And will litter the green with beer cans if you make a hole in one or hole out.
I don't really like it in sports when the crowd is supposed to be quiet. What nonsense.
I do love golf, but usually If it’s not a major I’m more of a final round Sunday watcher. I think I’ll give this tournament a bit of attention before Sunday. Thanks for posting, I hadn’t even realized it was this week yet.
Last year’s ace…
@donniem A good friend of mine was the trainer for the walking scorers at the Rio Olympics golf and shared some fun stories.
He said that the Brazilian fans had never seen much golf and were used to always booing the visiting team in soccer. So with only one Brazilian player in the field they were trying to scream and yell in the middle of everyone’s swing except the Brazil guy!
The volunteers had to explain this was not allowed, and finally placated them by telling them it was okay to “Boo” (actually cheer) for Matt Kuchar of the USA by yelling “KOOOOCH!” They loved this idea and started following Kuchar around so they could yell this at him! Kuchar won the bronze medal 🥉 so I guess it worked!
Lol. That’s a great story. Wonder if Kooch ever knew why he was so popular with the Brazilians? 😳
Of course, he’s a Georgia Tech guy so we don’t root too hard for him, except when he’s wearing the Team USA shirt in the Ryder Cup or Olympics!
True. He may be the only bright spot Tech has had in the last 10 years+.
I always liked rooting for David Duval, even though he’s a Tech guy too.
@Bum Funny video. I loved the comment by Amanda Balionis, analyst for CBS. "Now I smell like beer."
My cousin used to play golf with him in Jacksonville years ago.
I, too, rooted for him! He wore the Terminator sunglasses too!
And he was like a “Terminator “ in his prime….never stopped, kept coming at you!!
There was a SI story about Duval when he was a senior All American golfer at Tech and ran into the Tech AD with the golf coach on campus. Techs AD had no idea who David was an introduced himself with a smiling handshake. Nice effort but Duval couldn’t believe he didn’t know who he was. Then again, this is Tech sports we’re talking about which aren’t really a big thing, at least not to the fans and apparently Athletic Director too.
I always wondered why the Phoenix Open was the only place that kind of rowdiness is allowed. I am too lazy to google it. Can anyone tell me how that got started?
