Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Best Football Catch Phrases
Fun off season thread - let’s make a list of football signature catch phrases. We have dozens by Munson himself but there are plenty to share. I’ll start:
”Get the picture” - Munson
”Whoooooooa, Nellie!” - Keith Jackson
“Toe meets leather” and “Snap, touch, kick” - Al Ciraldo, longtime Tech announcer
“Ooooh, MY!” - Verne Lundquist of CBS
Comments
"Junkyard Dawgs" and "Get after their A$$e$" - Erk Russell
" I want to kiss you" - Joe Namath
Not a catchphrase, but Munson was known for saying “only 126 seconds left in the game,” forcing radio listeners to do quick math to figure out how many minutes remained.
BOOM!!! From the late great John Madden. I didn’t realize how much I would miss him.
More classic Munson:
and my personal favorite:
“Now there’s no sense going away because you KNOW it’s not gonna end like THIS!”
Many upvotes, my friend!
Well done!
One of my favorites is Mr Munson’s monologue repeated to the crowd as the Redcoats are playing the Battle Hymn of the Bulldog Nation right before kickoff (not really a “catch phrase” but it does stir the hearts and minds of the Bulldog faithful!):
“Glory, glory to ole’ Georgia.
Heroes have graced the field before you. Men with hearts, bodies and minds for which the entire Bulldog Nation can be justifiably proud. The tradition of unbridled excellence demonstrated by these individuals and many others spans more than a full century.
And now a new breed of Bulldawg stands ready to take the field of Battle. To assume the reigns of their Georgia forebearers. To continue that tradition. Understanding that there is no tradition more worthy of envy. No institution worthy of such loyalty as The University of Georgia.
As we prepare for another meeting between the hedges let all the Bulldawg faithful rally behind the men who now wear the red and black with two words. Two simple words that express the sentiments of the entire Bulldawg Nation…GO DAWGS”
Get the picture!?🤗😎
Selah!
Got to add:
”Look at the sugar falling from the sky…Look at the sugar falling from the sky!”
and…
”We just stepped on their face with a hob-nailed boot and broke their nose….we just crushed their face…!”
Go Dawgs!
Loran, whadda ya got? 🙂
Fun note: I was at that 1982 Georgia game in Auburn sitting behind the Dawgs defense on the goal line stand, so I didn’t hear the “sugar falling from the sky” comment live! My brother was an Auburn senior and I was a UGA freshman, and my whole family went to the game together. Even though my siblings and nephews/niece are Auburn alumni, they cheer for the Dawgs because of me and because they hate Alabama! 🤣
The only place that success comes before work is in the dictionary. (VL)
It ain't the size of the Dawg in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the Dawg.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Winners make great plays; losers make great excuses.
Size, speed, quickness, and strength can all help, but in the end only two things matter: can you beat the man in front of you and can you make the play?
Susie Kolber - Ughhh.
Another Munson quip:
”Loran whaddya got?”
GO DAWGS!!!
PS - @Hemingwey now I see that you beat me to it!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Hemingwey @christopherules
We ran into a blind UGA fan from Chicago at the 1996 UGA-USC game in Columbia. He fell in love with UGA listening to Larry and Loran. He would ride a bus to games and ask folks to help him get to his seat. Amazing story.
I started doing Loran Smith imitations and he loved that because his world was sound rather than sight.
@TurkDawg what a touching, and most beautiful story about this extra special human being!!! Just reading this really stirred my heart!!! Thank you so much for sharing that this community of “Georgia Bulldogs football love”, it really spreads out to so many different corners of all of our society!!! GO DAWGS!!!
PS - I wish I could give this 1000 up votes!!!
“If we score, we may win. If they never score, we’ll never lose.”
The Late Great, Erk Russell.
I've got to believe that incredible Erk Russell defensive fire burns ever so bright in CKS's soul.
