Love this article, Mike G!
It was good to point out the Coach’s emphasis on the two long drives (albeit with only three points scored) by the offense as successes in his mind!
What a descriptive play on words by Coach Kirby!!
Go Dawgs!
5/13 on 3rd downs....no one is talking about that...it won't cut it later in the season against better competition.
You can't satisfy everyone or make them happy. People always find something to complain about. Everyone has forgotten about the struggles Stetson and Monken had during their first year together. To include some games from the past two seasons. Football is a game of two halves and the result that counts is how the team finishes. As long as the end with a w....who cares how slow they start .
I think you are spot on. The sense of urgency now has more to do with the fact we do not have 3 first round guys on the DL. Only 1 (Mykel). Because of that we don't have the luxury of slow-playing Beck like we did Bennett. Plus the rb room was pretty heavy and stayed unijured. I am hoping Bell can be that surprise rb star that we are missing because that could be the difference in winning a championship or not.
You know why I think that is?....
--29 First downs
--2 of 2 on 4th down conversions
--190 rushing yds for a 4.3 yd/carry avg
--269 passing yds for a 7.7 yd/compl avg
--No Turnovers
--37.5 minutes of "ball control" offense under the "new clock rules"
EEEE...fficient! Why would anybody want to cherry pick an overhyped stat, in order to throw shade on what is obviously a dominant offensive unit. That's why I hate stats. Giving "Fans" stats on everything...is like putting a loaded weapon in the hands of a child. They're dangerous, in the wrong hands. Lol
Personally...I think Kirby & Mike have a little more imagination than we've seen over the last 3 weeks, in the "Red Zone". I know darned well, they have better plays than I've seen them use, which tells me, they are treating these first few games, like a scrimmage. It's been more about imposing their will, than "scoring points".
