UAW Strike impacting anyone else?
Bye week so I thought I would start one thread not about Brock Bowers' ankle.
I bought a new car 3 weeks ago. GM. Expensive. Drove it for 8 days. 2 days after selling my previous car the check engine light comes on on the new car. Nothing terminal, needs a $200 part that is of course covered under warranty that takes 30 minutes to install but they need to get it from Michigan. Service Manager at dealer informs me that he can see that they have pulled the part off the shelf, boxed it, and put shipping label on it. I am then informed that the person who is supposed to put the box on a truck is a union job. No part. No end in sight. Will not ship until strike is over apparently. Really ticked off on this one. Anybody else dealing with fallout from this? Ideas?

I feel for you but my 2003 Toyota Tacoma is still chugging along quite nicely.
Believe it or not I actually still have my very first car. Not good for commutes or long trips though.
Ugh so sorry, Chopper. That’s so stressful. Techie hubby and I are going to need a new car soon and with two little kids this kind of thing makes me very nervous to go through the whole car shopping process. Do you have another car you can drive?

Yeah I'm good. GM said they will reimburse me for a rental which I got yesterday. Dealer had a lot full of other folks waiting for a part and no loners left. They said to submit invoices from rental company to them "on a monthly basis as the strike progresses." Great outlook huh. In the grand scheme of things this is an inconvenience not a problem, but it really stinks not having any ETA at all on this.
I worked in a Chevrolet dealership for 17 years then 7 years in a van conversion business. I always drove GM products since that was where I had the most experience. Over 15 years later, my brother and 2 nephews work at Toyota and I get their employee discount so I buy my first Toyota. I absolutely love it. I will never go back to a GM product.
Sweet, my brother had 69 or 70 I believe. High school friend had 66 or 67, we aired it out a time or 2.
Had a buddy do the same thing with his trucks a few years ago. He loves them. The car I just bought I will likely never sell, but this UAW strike really has my boxers in a bunch.

Way back then the auto workers were making astronomical amounts of money compared to other industries. I have no idea what they make now especially since 2008? when things went to hell in a handbasket with GM and Ford but I can't imagine them taking that much of a pay cut.
Back in the 80's we had a car carrier dropping cars and his truck tore up, so he had to sit and wait for somebody to come fix it. He was ticked and complaining that he was only making $26 per hour sitting there. I told him to get his ass out the chair and I would sit there for him. They only got paid half their normal pay when they were down.
I do "load management" on my truck for sure. No really long trips. Kind of how I root for the Dawgs - I think they can win every game, but I can think of lots of bad things happening. Same deal on a long trip with the Tacoma - so I don't.
I'm a Toyota guy too. Hooked on then, I am.
