Hate to see Jared leave. Had higher hopes for him. Maybe Jared could have made that 50 yarder against Bama.....no wind, indoors, and Woodring misses. Just sayin'. Well, spilt milk. Jared is heading back to Texas and his family after the Orange Bowl. I truly wish this young man the very best. He is a very good kicker. Maybe Texas will sign him. Graduated summa cum laude in Finance...bright future for this lad.
@UGA66 It is foolish to speculate whether or not Zirkel would have made the 50 yarder against bama. What we do know is he had plenty of chances to win the job as the FG kicker. But he was never able to win it.
Good Luck to Jared Zirkel. He was a pretty good KO specialist.
I was never really impressed with him, especially his kick offs. He only had a 66% kick into the end zone rate and 3 costly out of bounds kick offs. We need a bigger leg for kick offs but not sure who we are going to turn to now.
This just shows how deep Georgia’s Rooster is. To have multiple kickers. And others waiting in the wings.
i believe Jared was also the back up punter and place kicker
as fans we have been spoiled throughout the Kirby era with exceptional special teams.
Thank you for everything that you did for Georgia! Maybe you will win the FG kicking job next year at your new school, and be able to prove to the NFL how good you are!!! Good Luck young man!
Jared leaves as a DGD, IMO......can't blame him for wanting to get closer to home in Kerrville....UTSA in San Antonio or UT in Austin look likely.
As far as making the 50 yard FG.....maybe it's my 72yo eye sight, but I'm still trying to figure out who committed the false start, as I didn't see any one move....selective overly strict officiating IMO......45 yards was a slam dunk! But fate had a different plan.....as the best team won by 3.
Guess we have a different idea of being "foolish", my friend. Jared has kicked 50 yards in practice...fact. I was just dreaming for Jared. I always liked the kid. Know little about Woodring.
Merry Christmas ScoreCheck!!
@UGA66 I think we have the same definition of foolish. I understand where you are coming from. Some of us see videos of these young men playing throughout high school and become invested. Unfortunately, some of the ones we know have potential never get a chance to display it. Whether it be, they do not perform well at practice or the coaching staff's view of how that player performs.
Certainly understandable. He’s a good kicker but he wasn’t going to get pass Woodring. Wish him well.
