"“He has a lot of the traits you love to see at the position,” Reid said while appearing on Kevin Clark’s This is Football podcast. “I don’t think he played well in the SEC title game against Alabama. "

Agree. But, in his defense, he didn't have his GO-TO receivers Bowers and McConkey at anywhere close to full strength (when they actually were in the game). I think the botched hand-off was a one-off. But this is why I think it is imperative for Beck to really be in sync and dialed in to multiple receivers and not just a couple of favorite targets. Of course, all those guys have got to find separation and that didn't happen a lot last year for receivers not named Bowers and McConkey. Beck will definitely be seriously challenged, and I do think he has to bring his game up a notch for the Dawgs to beat teams like Bama, Texas, and Ole Miss on the road. I hope one of the TEs will step up and become a legitimate threat. And I am counting on Bobo to be creative and aggressive on offense. We've certainly got all the weapons we need on offense. It's just a matter of getting guys in the right position and executing the right plays.

I'm very interested to see as well. Honestly, the Spring Game (up until the final drive) was not nearly as polished and high level as he's performed. Just as Bennett needed that final year to go from undrafted to drafted, Beck absolutely needs this year to go from 2nd Round to Top 5.

Don't forget, unlike Stafford, Beck was only considered a low/middle 4-star and just the 13th best QB in his class (20th best = 3 star). Nearly everyone expected him to transfer. Prior to last year, he had less than 500 yards total passing. He needs a really great year to solidify his spot.

I really wish I could have the confidence in Beck that so many fans seem to have but I just don’t see it. He’s a pretty good QB but I cannot remember him ever hitting a receiver in stride on a deep ball. I can remember him overthrowing wide open receivers and I can remember McConkey being wide open against Ole Miss and having to come back and catch the ball on the five yard line when it should have been an easy touchdown. Another deep ball miss by Carson Beck. All we ever heard about Bennett was that he couldn’t throw the deep ball yet he did it on numerous occasions in huge games. Don’t get me wrong, I truly hope I am wrong and Beck is really all that but to me the evidence isn’t there. He’s adequate but he’s not great. At least not yet.

Carson Beck plays against the best college defense every day in practice. Who on our schedule has a better defense than Georgia? espn (sic) truly hates us. Never expect them to say anything positive about UGA.
