ATHENS — Georgia is accustomed to playing without inside linebacker Smael Mondon. The senior battled injury for much of the 2023 season and missed Georgia’s game against Florida State. CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson got the start that day at inside linebacker.

    are we sure it’s an injury keeping Mondon out?

    Former 4* ILB "Troy Bowles has not traveled with the team in either of the last two road games". I don't really get why coaches complain about the size of travel rosters then take players that have no chance of playing (ie Jordan Hall, Tate Ratledge) only to stand on the sideline.

    Depending on how long Mondon may be out, Bowles could be playing a bigger role going forward. Game experience , even if just on special teams, would be beneficial.

    I have been thinking it since last year but it has to be said now. Look for Troy Bowles to be playing for a team in FL next season. Probably UCF, FU or FL St in that order.

    I Know this is off topic, and I Humbly ask your indulgence. I know $$$ are very, very tight for everyone at this time. But if you can Please donate to the Hurricane Relief of your choice. Even $10 will help some. Again use the charity of your choice, that You feel most comfortable with.

    I used Samaritan’s Purse as the vast majority of the $$$ goes directly to the people who need it not admin. I also used President Trump’s Go Fund Me. Thank You in advance for your help and compassion. God Bless all my fellow Dawgs fans !!

    @UGADad20

    I want to know the reason for that, as well. Bowles was a top 10 LB recruit, son of an NFL coach and player, and this is year 2-I have not seen him play a single snap!

    Unless it was some sort of freak injury or illness, someone needs to ask Coach Smart about him specifically.

    He was HIGHLY recruited.

    Forget Bowles. I want to know what the deal is with Mondon? Is he gonna miss just this game or multiple games. Seriously, as a former reporter, I wonder what these guys who supposedly cover UGA football do? It's like if they didn't get press releases and press conference, they would know NOTHING about what's going on with the team. Don't they have sources? Don't they know how to reach players or staff that can give them insight into what's going on with the program? Just saying that Mondon's on the injury report and won't play tells me next to nothing. We need details.

    I think the main reason is that Williams and Cole are just really good. Higher ceiling players. Better long term potential for the program. Better chance to live up to the lofty LB standards at UGA.

    I do believe that Bowles used his redshirt last year. So there is nothing to be gained by not playing him this yr. I believe he plays on special teams. Size/speed don't seem to match the UGA profile. If he sticks around he could be a good Star (S/DB) against run heavy teams. Doesn't mean he can't help now with ST's and spot duty on D.

    I have not been impressed with Allen or RWilson to this point. Still young players who will hopefully get to the UGA standard sooner rather than later. For all the hype over Mondon has he really been a difference maker? In 45 games he has 102 solo tackles, 5 sacks and 1 INT.

    BTW, Tykee Smith looked good playing for Tampa (Todd Bowles) tonight vs the Falcons.
