3 star? I know Kirby has a knack for making 3 stars into superstars eventually but based on this season’s performances, we need more 5 stars.

I have no idea if this fits in this particular case, but I can see some “commits” (and I use that now archaic word loosely) reopening their recruitment in search of greater NIL money, even from the school to which they have “committed.” Call it Negotiation 101.

Jordan Davis started with a weight issue too. Kirby turned him into a star.

We need a new word for “commitment.” When one of my sons was being recruited to play basketball, I told him when someone in our family tells a man what he was going to do, he will do it. A man’s word is his bond. Maybe we should say a player has given his “maybe” rather than using the word “commitment.” Can’t blame the kid, his dad’s statement explains why the son may be confused about what commitment really is.

This could be the result of a number of scenarios. It sounds like Shivers is losing his battle with controlling his weight after UGA gave him some directives for a targeted weight (or grades). The same was true of Kayden McDonald of NGwin in '23.

Or it could be that Shivers' recruiting is heating up and he realized that there could be renewed bidding for his services. This would be my guess. It is a gamble for a recruit to delay his commitment. On one hand teams missing on other players can drive up his NIL. On the other hand he could get hurt and have an offer withdrawn. Once committed, pulling the offer from an injured player is a bad look for the program. But before a commitment suddenly there is no room in the class for an injured player.

One thing is clear, NIL has created chaos for UGA recruiting. UGA is not getting the same level recruits they were getting before NIL fully kicked in. The continue to fail to get the top players nationally and in GA. UGA has zero commitments among the Top 30 (Rivals) players nationally. Alabama has 5 of the top 31 including a 5* QB. Same with Ohio State. Losing Downs (twice) and Raiola has set the program back.
