Our new DB coach has avoided criticism thus far. DBs have been terrible and I haven't seen much improvement. Ellis Robinson should get the start in Austin if we want to have better results.

all of the comments have been filled with anger and dissatisfaction and I feel like I know now why.
we’ve seen this team play so much better than what they’ve put on the field. For the past 3 years we’ve been told that the standard is the standard. Now we are seeming some play that is up to the standard with globs of sloppy play and undisciplined mistakes well below the standard sprinkled in.

What I’d like to ask the staff is,

Should we as fans condition ourselves to this new “standard” or should we still expect the standard to be upheld?

Let me also say UGA is not alone in this, imagine being OSU or Tennessee or ole miss right now!?? Yeesh

The way this team is playing, there’s only one guaranteed win left. This team has yet to play a complete half, much less a complete game. Unless a lot of things change dramatically over the next few weeks, on and off the field, this team won’t make the playoffs.

a lot of focus has been on recruiting WR and RBs. Appears we need to focus on some DBs as a few of ours are getting targeted very successfully by opposing QBs.

Our pass coverage was terrible. Mr. Z is correct—how are you going to cover a receiver when you have no idea where the ball is?

  • WildmanSlayerWildmanSlayer ✭✭✭ Junior

Our biggest problem are the DBs they are not looking for the ball, you can't just run down the field like Daylen Everette, and Julian Humphrey have been doing, when Ellis Robinson IV came in you could see the difference, he had his head turn so he could make a play on the ball, that's a player problem, not a coaching problem, if it was a Coaching problem Ellis Robinson IV wouldn't be looking for the ball, these Veteran players should be taking notes form Ellis, because that's how you play the ball.

too much man to man defense rather than zone imo. I know we switched up against Bama at some point at some point. some coaches teach playing the man rather than the ball, not a big fan of that.

the good news is, the DB's are playing hard & plenty of talent back there. had a couple of busted coverages, but **** happens. ultimately, the DB coach is responsible. if it ain't working, he needs to fix it…..the talent is there imo.

agree with what you are saying (on new coach). thinking Smart will be watching him/secondary closely this week. Kirby doesn't play around with that ****.

The most dangerous games for a defense, and particularly a secondary, can often be when a QB with no expectations and nothing to lose opens it up. It didn't help that Van Buren was difficult to get down when pressured, and there were some egregious missed holding calls, in addition to the untimely 3rd down penalties. I'm not making excuses for the poor secondary play, but also want to keep things in perspective.

Not playing Ellis Robinson literally makes no sense. Our DBs have played poorly. Not playing the ball is crazy. The ball is the most important thing out there. It ain’t complicated, it’s football.

These are really good points! There's probably a little "sky is falling" that's true now, but I also believe the portal and NIL are rapidly driving more competitiveness overall, and this is what it feels like. As @Vetdawg said, it seems like a lot of traditionally dominant, Top 25 teams are also seeing this kind of drop-off as lesser teams (Vandy, NIU, etc.) are closing the gap in some cases…
